Do they have any reason to refuse me a longer visa?

Just came back from the embassy where the lady taking in my application (I'm an EU citizen) was suggesting I may only get a 3mth single entry visa, while I'm requesting a multi-entry one for a 4 month trip.
She stated that as it was my first trip there it would be too long. What a load of bullocks - I'm well travelled, know what I'm doing and plan to spend loads of cash. Was she just in a bad mood? Will she ruin my plans?!

One of the members here, RTodor from Bulgaria had a similar problem last year. You might like to read this thread

Apparently it is at the Indian Consulate's discretion whether they issue you with a 3 month or 6 month visa. Try talking to them to find out why they won't issue you with a 6 month visa. Is it a question of having enough cash (visable means of support for a 6 month period) or something else?

One member here suggested flying directly to Nepal where Nepalese visas are issued on arrival at the airport and then applying for a 6 month Indian visa.

Thanks Alan. I also have to supply a letter from my employer stating I will not work for them during the period of my holiday - I'm an editor, she must have confused that with pesky journalist.
I already have the ticket, jabs, hotel reservation and lots of euros that i want to pour in to the Indian economy!
I'll hear back from them in 5-7 days anyway, have a month before departure and am good friends with the guy who runs the best Indian takeaway in town - so maybe I can bribe them with samosas We'll see.

this is rather strange. i have Russian passport and applied in the UK (as a UK resident) twice and both times got multi-visa for 6 months. first time i had no job and no cash in my pocket. got both visas the very same morning.

the HCI in London don't even offer a 3 months visa, i think.

good luck!!

Oops. Remember everybody, never put down anything to do with journalism or writing as your occupation on your visa application. I have always put "manager".

Yeah! They gave me the 6-month visa I asked for.
After saying that I may need a 'special' visa because I was a 'journalist' (which I'm not, but try convincing that beady-eyed Prague embassy official), I decided to fax a slimy letter of motivation to the embassy in Holland, where the decision is made after all. Seems to have worked.
