do i need an onward ticket to apply for indian visa?

Hi, I am new to this forum and it looks pretty impressive...cant believe i only heard about it now!
I have one quick question about mail application for an Indian visa:
Do i HAVE to include and onward ticket with my mail application?
I have paid a deposit on a RTW ticket but do not intend to pay in full for a few weeks and therefore cannot get a copy of the ticket. I am going to india in september and have the forms ready to be sent off....except of course a copy of my tickets.
should I wait til i pay fully for the ticket or can i send it off now?

p.s so far all my visas have been delayed considerably so would like to get my indian visa asap!
oh yeah i am an irish citizen too.

no.. but you can include a copy of the itenerary if you like.

Hi Luciano and welcome to India Mike! You don't need to send your ticket along with your application but keep in mind thevalidity of the visa is from the
date of issue not the date of entry.
