Do I need a visa for Nepal?
I am going to India in July and was thinking about trying to make a trip to Nepal. If I wanted to do this, would I be need a visa. If so, could I just get the visa on entry to Nepal? I would only want to be there for a few days.
Thanks in advance. |

Nepal Visa
Hi Ultravelvet
Yes, you need a visa for Nepal and yes, you can get it at the border. You will have to pay in US dollars cash and when we went through last year at Sonauli I think it cost 30 USD. Has anyone got an update on this? If you have the time Nepal is worth more than a few days. Beautiful country and it seems fairly peaceful at the moment. Have a good trip. |

Not at the Delhi airport but at the India-Nepal border. |

Hey I'm goin' to Nepal also in july, be sure your Indian visa is 'double entry' so you can return with no hassle.

jadeskirt,
you get the nepali visa on the arrival to kathmandu airport (if you travel by airplane). you need a photo or 2 (which you can also get made at the airport) and i think 30 dollars. be sure to have the dollars, as they will not accept rupees (not sure about euros etc). it's very easy. the whole thing - getting out the airplane, getting a visa, getting out of airport - took much less time than landing in mumbai. if you need any other info abt nepal or just kathmandu, just pm me. i was there in january. |

Hi, What do you think are the chances of being able to renew a visa for India in Nepal? Is it worth a try? I have been to sri lanka before, but people are having problems now it seems. Trying to find someone who has done this is Nepal, or failing that, Dhaka. Thanks friend ![]() |

Hi Shanthi,
I've done it in Nepal, but through "somebody shady". It's a big business in Nepal, getting Indian visas. I know you said you don't want to risk doing anything that isn't 100% legit - this is about 50% legit, because the visa is real and legal, they just get it thru the back-door. If you decide you want to chance it, I have a couple of names. I'm sure it's possible thru legit channels as well, I just don't have the info - sorry. (Now I have a real, legit, honest-to-god, legally obtained 10 year visa from the US, so I'm not worried.) |

What do you suppose the best (cheapest!) way of getting from Delhi to Kathmandu is? Bus? Train? Probably not flying, but maybe...? Thanks!

Starting from the bottom up, I think that the train is not an option - unless I am mistaken, there are no train-tracks in Nepal.
That would make the bus option cheapest by far (which is usually the case anyway) - but it's a hassle beyond belief. I've never done it myself - sitting forever in a rickety bump-around, and transfering at the border never sounded too attractive to begin with; and everyone I've spoken to about it says that if you can afford it, you should spare yourself the agony and take the plane. The good(?) news is that the rates differ quite a lot depending on where in India you're taking off from - so you could take a train (or a bus, for that matter) to Varanasi, say, and fly from there. There used to be flights from Patna, but I'm not sure if they still run. I don't remember the prices, though, you'd have to check that. Another option is hiring a car & driver - which is still not particularly inexpensive, but might be less than a plane - depending, again, on where you're taking off from. Sorry I couldn't be more help... ![]()
