damaged passport
hi,
i have applied for a german business visa. the problem here is the lamination cover on the first page of my
passport has peeled off and the immigration service group from my company has stapled the cover to the passport
and i am kind of anxious that the consulate guys might reject the application thinking that its
a dummy passport. since this is the first time i am applying for a visa, i do not know many things
about the process.however, i already have a UK business visa stamped. will this effect my application???
any information on this querry would be greatly appreciated.

hi
you always have high chances of running into trouble with immigration authorities at your port of exit/entry during international travel. What I have heard that in cases similar to your the immigration authorities normally peel off the whole cover and make your passport invalid.
my suggestion - don't take chances

I do not understand.. How can a non passport/immigrant control authority muckity-muck with your personal passport ? Why is this group from your company putzing with your passport ?I gather you have not traveled often with this passport, so how did it fall apart ?
I have more questions than answers. Please get a tatkal service to get the passport replaced if possible.

Srinivasan's post is about 1 year old. i dont think you will get answers from him now.In India - official travel visas(work permit/business visa) are handled through ones employers. Usually bigger companys will have an HR-immigration dept which deals with the visa hassles. They do the entire work of document collection/verifying, couriering to consulate/vfs, booking interview dates etc
So nothing extraordinary about them handling his passport.
But its strange that they stapled a damaged passport. Usually they will refuse to take such a passport from the employee and ask him to get a new one.

With everyone responding to the OP, nobody has answered jayant80's question!
Jayant, sorry about that, and welcome to IndiaMike.
The lamination is there so it's obvious if it gets peeled back to change details, if yours has peeled off, it will make everyone suspicious that it has been tampered with, even (or especially) if it's stuck back down again.

get an appointment with the RPO [regional passport officer] in your region.
show him your passport.
in all probability you will be issued a new one jayant.
please avoid any tampering - trying to stick / staple the laminated sheet.
take it as it is - and do it as soon as possible.

This is a very common problem with Indian passport ,
Specially with the Jumbo Booklet ( 60 pages ) one,
this is my second jumbo booklet within last 5 yars
in both cases I have this Lamination problem, my
suggestion is do not tamper or staple with this
Lamination cover keep as it is , I had only problem
so far with Singapore visa auth. otherwise
it was accepted and described as Lamination
Problem.
Cheers
