Correction in Passport

Dear Sir,
I am a monk and I have recently got a passport. On the last page of the passport the name of my Guru is recorded in the father's name column whereas in the mother's name column it is the name of my biological mother.
While applying for Schengen Visa it was pointed out by the German Embassy that it was not legal to have Guru's name in the father's name column.
How can I have it corrected? I approached the Passport Officer who expressed unwillingness to either make the necessary change or issue a new Passport.
what is the solution for me? I must also mention that, to my knowledge, quite a few other monks have their Guru's name recorded in the father's name column and have been getting visas. It is just because it was not noticed by the concerned Embassy.
I need help with this issue.

It is a strange case where no body could detect the error during the scrutiny of the documents!

If it has happened, you need to apply for reissue of passport with the correct entries in the Passport Form.

It will take normal procedure. Always remain careful while completing a Passport Form.

You mean you have a passport that has a completely different name than yours. A error in spelling can be corrected easily, so can a DOB. But if you have to make a big change in name, it will attract a lot of questions.

I don't know if it is possible to make BIG changes to a passport in Poland. Then there is the additioanl issue of what happens to the Visa issued to a Mr. X who is now no longer Mr.X.

Will be difficult and you will have to answer a lot of questions even if it is done in india.

Have you considered a Legal Change of Name.

Though as an Indian i can say that Ganesh and Ganapati mean the same thing, in a name they are very different. The surname is easier and can be explained as another way of spelling. The very very different DOB will also complicate things.

I would doubt anyone in the Poland consulates will be knowledgeable enough to advice you on how to go about it.

My advice is to try and get this done in India as a change of name rather than a correction of mistakes on a passport. Of course the DOB needs to be changed. That will also ensure any visas you have will still be valid.

@gana: Have someone visit the RPO that issued the passport with scanned copies of all documents, and talk to someone senior. Its not an easy issue to resolve for sure. Ultimately it is they who have to issue a new passport to you with/without corrections.

Yes, I meant The Regional Passport Office in India that issued your current passport.

The officials in Poland embassy may not be very aware of how this issue could be resolved. So I would not be very confident of any resolution there.

It probably can get you into trouble.
