Confused . . .

I am Canadian, but I am residing and working in the US on an H1B visa. We are going to India in Dec, and I am meeting my family in Toronto, so we will be departing from Toronto to get into Delhi.

My question is . . . how do I go about getting my visa to India? Do I contact the Embassy/Consulate here in the US? Do I do this through Canada?

Does anyone out there have any experience with this confusing situation?

Try this website.

I believe you deal directly with an Indian Consulate in the U.S., but need to provide proof of legal residence here.

I'm a U.S. citizen living in Japan. I got my visa to go to India at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo without any problem. I imagine that it is the same as there...but you could always call the embassy to reconfirm. Also, as a non-Japanese person I needed slightly different doccuments. So when you call, make sure they know what your nationality is and if you need anything different from what they ordinarily deal with.

It should not be a problem to get one in US as you are on H1B which entitles you for long stay in US. As mentioned by DianeN, its a good idea to call them and ask about the documents required.
Last but important thing, don't tell and show that you'll be staying in Toronto before flying to India, if they get to know that they may ask you to apply in Canada, as you are canadian.
