Ok, here we go, tis might be a bit complicated, but bar with me!
My wife is of indian nationality, and I am British. She is currently on a settlement visa here in Britan for 2 years. We would like to go on holiday somewhere, but I do not how and if she can get a visa for another country. Can she apply for a tourist visa for another country while she has a settlement visa for the UK currently valid??And if so, does she have to apply form India or the UK??? Told you it was complicated, Hope you can help? |

Then you must check the requirements for that country, on their embassy/consulate/tourist-info sites. There should be no issue with UK letting her out! Or back in again! In general, lots of people are foreign citizens in their country of residence. Your question is not complicated: it is unanswerable.

Someone on here might be able to give you the specialist Singapore information you need, but ideally your question needs to be posted on www.SingaporeMike.com.
Somewhat inconsiderately, that site does not actually exist, though I'm sure there are others which fill the gap. Good luck! |

Nick will be far more familiar with this than I. In the US if a a person is in a transitional state to a permanent residency status it can be disaster to step out of the country even say to Mexico. Happened to a friend who now can try to straighten things out in Mexico or swim back.. |

To the OP, the most critical thing for you to determine is what kind of documentation/clearance you wife needs to be able to re-enter the UK. WE REALLY AREN'T QUALIFIED TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION HERE. And we can't even really answer a question about what kind of visa an Indian national residing in the UK on a settlement visa needs to visit some third country. You need to be talking to immigration authorities in the UK (to determine what your wife needs to be able to leave and re-enter - is her existing settlement visa enough, or does she need additional travel documents?) and to consular authorities for the country you plan to visit - in this case Singapore - (to determine what kind of visa she needs for there, if any). IndiaMike us primarily a forum about traveling in India. It's not a website about the UK's immigration requirements. So just because your wife is an Indian citizen and this website has the word "India" in it, that doesn't mean IM is the place to go to get a reliable answer to a question like the one you posed. |

My thoughts (unqualified, and therefore of little value) are that a person in UK on a settlement visa should have no trouble coming and going, unless they are in the country as refugees. Sean, as this obviously worries you, I'd suggest that half an hour spent with a lawyer familiar with immigration work would be money well spent. You and your wife should be generally aware of her rights in UK, not just what affects a holiday. Even your local Citizen's Advice Bureau will probably be able to help, and may even answer this question alredy on their website. I think we've gone as far as we can with a topic that is not really relevant to this site, so the thread will now be closed. I'm sure you'll sort this out easily: have a good trip! |
