Oh! You have a British birth certificate? I'd forgotten about that; that there is a full one and a shortened one.

Good luck with the application process! No more India visas for life. Even as a PIO holder I can still say, "Lucky You!"

You only need to supply a photocopy of your fathers Indian passport not the passport itself.
This is all i did and got my PIO Card with no problems.

In every photocopy do not forget to write -

THIS IS A TRUE COPY

Signature
(NAME & DATE)

No originals need be submitted in the application package.

ok so i went to the London HCI today i waited 3 hours to submit my papers, mostly because there were many people with not all of the docs and spent ages sorting it out.

However just saw your last note, i wrote self attested on every page and signed it is this enough? I followed the notes on the HCI website. I will wait and see here's hoping a quick turn around. I was even asked my age, did she think i was a minor? im 28.

Interesting to know that HCI is so busy, even now they do not process visas. I had imagined those huge halls empty, except for two or three PIO/OCI applicants!

Those things must be much more in demand than I imagined.

most people were there to get visas pios and oci's and new passports, what I think happens is that Indians that stay int eh uk become citizens then go back to get pio or ocis . and also for their children

Not so bad as in US. [Swearing in mm/dd/yy] apply for ppt few hrs later and then apply for PIO/CIA/NSA/OCI/FBI/OCI/PIO card next day after recieving the fresh US ppt.

Don't believe me ? go check http://forums.immigration.com/index.php

Hi Irish Indian,

I am also planning on getting a PIO - can I give photocopies of all of my documents.

What about my own passport - do they need that or can I give a photocopy of that too?

Filing in London or Dublin ? I was under the impression that PIOs had to send in the passport, and OCIs didnt.

Hi nycank,

I'll be filing in London.

Why would they need my passport anyway? I thought PIO is a card/booklet - do they do something to my passport e.g stamp it?

I have no clue why they need the passport submitted with PIO. With the OCI application, once you get approval and the OCI reaches London, you have to go and give your UK passport. They'll affix a U Visa sticker along with a separate booklet.

1. A PIO card (which is booklet!) is only valid in conjunction with a given passport.

2. Whilst there is no sticker, the passport is endorsed with details of the PIO card issued.

However, there wouldn't seem to be any need for them to have the passport except for confirmation on application, and endorsement on issue. I have no idea why they would want to keep it in between. I don't recall them keeping mine (in Chennai), but my application was dealt with in a few days.
