Change in surname from parents...
Change in surname from parents...
I am willing to apply for a passport which is a must to join in an MNC. But i have a doubt- Actually there is a change in my surname(one alphabet) compared to the original one. But i have the same surname in all the memos from Tenth to Btech, whereas in the ration card my dads name has a diff in the surname compared to the one in my memo. There is no problem with my name in the ration car4d but only with the surname of my dads in ration card and that of mine in my memoes, So is that a major problem that could cause for the rejection of application for passport and can i go forward with the application. Please guide me.
The change is my surname in the memoes is as MADDINANI whereas in the ration card my dads is MADDINENI. My name is pradeep kumar in ration card thats it. So please help me with this.

Ration Cards are a minefield of spelling errors. Everyone knows that. If the spelling in your other docs is correct, there is nothing to worry. If your memos have a wrong spelling then that is difficult to correct. Apply with the correct spelling and explain if necessary.
From what I know Maddineni is correct spelling.
From what I know Maddineni is correct spelling.

Having different spellings in your marks sheets and passport might complicate things like visas and airport transactions. Best to stick with your wrong spelling and apply with the wrong spelling for the passport. The spelling in the Ration card is not considered Sacrosanct, so no need to worry over the spelling there. Apply as MADDINANI.

You might have to get an " Annexure E " Which is an affidavit filed before a judge asking for your name to be changed in your passport, i am going through the same nightmare and i am going to passport office today to sort it out . My Blog

In addition to the Affidavit, you will also have to insert a publication in the Govt. Gazette for change of name - even a change in alphabet is considered a change of name! You may have already seen these type of public notices in the newspapers.

two newspapers, actually. one in the regional language-of-the-state daily.
the other in an english daily.
am guessing - the ration card is your proof of residence / address, pradeep ?
if so, dont you have documents for them other options ?
the ration card requires by one more document - to be viable.

check here:if you have any of the other documents above - you dont need the ration card at all.

Thank you brishti, actually the ration card is used here as a photo identity proof and for residence proof or other things i have other options clearly. But it is for photo identity proof. So i need to go with it only
Thank you very much Mr. Narendra for your suggestions. I will stick to it

Don't you have a Election ID card. Ration card as mentioned by others needs other supporting docs in addition.

Hey Pradeep,
First of all tell us what exactly you want, is it just your passport or passport with your specific name (wrong name as in documents or want your name corrected and that name should appear in the passport.
If you go through the application guidelines then most your queries would be sorted out.
As far as your passport is concerned then just be specific as to what exactly you want? Like as to what your name should be, which is different from your parents etc, etc,.
There is no way that you will have any problem if you get your different name in your passport, as to your visa or your clearances because what ever change of name you are going to have is legal and according to the law of the "State" (area, place, region or country) and other "States" do respect the laws of peer states.
Just be specific as to what exactly you want and then there is a solution for it, as it is a legal solution.

Then wat about photo identity proof? They even need that as a requiement
Hi Poisonspy,
To be specific i want the passport with the wrong name itself as in my educational documents but i doubt there would be any problem with the surname in ration card. Thats it. In ration card dads surname is as Martin Maddineni but in my memos it is as Pradeep Kumar Maddinani and dads name is Martin Maddinani. So thats my doubt.
