Canadian in Indian

Hi,
By birth I am Indian and recently became citizen of Canada. I came to India on Indian passport on 03 Oct 09. I received my Canadian passport on 14 Oct 09 here while in India. On 15 TH i surrendered my Indian passport. I have receipt for surrendering my Indian passport. Now I wish to go back and have tickets for 23 Oct. Do I face any problems while exiting India. I am also applying for OCI online atleast form A and then while I am in Canada will submit other part form B to Indian embassy in Canada.

Can anyone help in this matter, if I face any difficulties at passport check at airport. Thanks

Where did you get your Canadian passport ? In India ? or did you get that passort transported via post/courier to India ?

From the descriptions of it... You are in trouble. Haste, makes Waste....

Is there a compelling reason for you to file your Form A in India ? You have not mentioned which consulate in Canada your fall under the juridiction of ? Is Indian Embassy in Ottawa your nearest juridiction ?

I agree, there is no reason to file Part A while in India. Do both parts when you get back to Canada. Will go much more smoothly that way.

I've known people who have applied for OCI while in India (my brother was one such person) and it took months and months whereas my other brother and I as well as many other friends who have applied in the US and Canada got it in under a month. There's a thread here on IM where a person (anar, I believe) had to wait more than a year for his OCI application (submitted in India) to even be acknowledged.

I bet if we had started the process in India, we'd have been looking at 3 months or more, just my impression. Not saying it will be like that for you but you should be prepared for it to take a few months.

As for exiting India, I don't think there should be problem because along with your new Canadian passport, you can present a receipt showing surrender of your Indian passport.

.
In absence of his old unexpired, yet cancelled/surrendered indian passport; he'd have to show an alternative document to estanblish his indian creds.

OP: What was the burning desire to surrender your indian passport in India ? On which you traveled a few weeks ago ? How did you manage to get your Canadian passport of which you became a citizen (or rather a passport holder) while in India ? Something dont compute

Presumably the "receipt showing surrender of Indian passport" would prove he once had it? Otherwise what's the point of the Indian govt issuing it? Hey don't roll your eyes at me, I wasn't the one who was in a hurry to surrender my Indian passport, & think it's just bizarre a situation!

Wouldn't it also be true that from the date he surrendered his passport he became an illegal alien as he would not have any visa to stay in India on his new passport?

Yeah, forget OCI, he needs an Indian visa, no!?
This whole thing doesn't make a lotta sense starting with the business about even getting a Canadian passport while still in India with presumably no Indian visa on said new passport, plus usually Indian consulates/FRROs would return the Indian passport stamping canceled inside w/ edges snipped. Not heard of a receipt before or any of what's happening in this case. It's a new one for me at least.
