British citizen applying for visa in Australia

Hi,

I am a British citizen about to visit Australia for 3 months. In September I have a flight booked from Australia to India and really hope to stay for 6 months on a tourist visa. I understand that if I apply for my visa whilst still in the UK it will begin on the date of issue (and so I will waste half of it whilst in Australia).

I've been trying to find information on whether it is possible for foreigners to apply for an Indian visa whilst in Australia and how I would go about it.

I'm sorry if this questions been asked and answered before but I really need some advice!

Thanks

I do not know the "answer" to your query, but I can tell you that most Embassys or consulates of India use an outside service to process all details concerning a visa to India. Your best bet is to look up the Indian embassy in the town you will be residing (I counted 5 places http://india.visahq.com/embassy/Australia/ ) then follow their specific directions. Be sure to do this before you leave for Austrailia as you need all sorts of documents of wild and weird nature (haha). Always best to prepare more than you need!

Good luck, and I hope that website gets you started!

The official source (of the outsourced entity collecting applications) is theIPVSC website www.vfs-in-au.net and the checklist is http://www.vfs-in-au.net/pdf/Tourist..._Checklist.pdf

@rebindia; nycank is correct. On line applications are preferred, and through that website only.

Your timing issue isn't entirely resolved tho'. I would expect you will lose some of your six months visa between it being granted, and you getting on a plane for India.

Get the paperwork exactly correct, or it will be returned. Check and double-check what you submit.

Apply for a one-year visa in the UK and write an accompanying letter giving the reasons.
