Often hard to get Indian High Commission on the phone.

Keeping in mind that they will be closed for the British public holidays plus most major Indian religious and national dates it is absolutely essential to check before visiting.

Unless you live really close anyway

probably too late for you now, but I was there yesterday queueing for visa- they are closed over the weekend and new years day - back open on Tuesday.

Advice, get there early, we arrive at 9.10am (twenty minutes before opening) and were already over 100 in the queue ticketing position.

Got our visas at about 4.10pm (we handed over our forms at about 11.45, caught the train into town until the Consulate re-opened at 3pm then took it in turns to stand in the collection queue for an hour).

Have fun!

Edinburgh and London Consulates will answer the phones but not Birmingham. The phone will just ring till your telecom provider cuts you off. The staff at Birmingham are pretty bad when it comes to communications, they will not reply to emails or answer the phone. On my last visit several weeks ago people who had been told their Overseas Citizenship would be ready in 3 months (and they would get a phonecall) were complaining that even after 4/5 months no one had bothered to phone them. When they went to the counter they were told they could collect their OIC passes etc in the afternoon. I guess another sure sign of how communication shy the staff at Birmingham are.

Get there by 8:00am. I once went at 6:45am and there were two people already in the queue. By 8:45am the queue was pretty large. Then you always get some latecomers who know a person in the queue so naturally being ignorant bastards they jump the queue.

They only give out 200 tickets everyday and after holidays there is usually a bit of a rush.

I HOPE CONSUL GENERAL N.P. SHARMA (BIRMINGHAM) READS THIS THREAD (OR ONE OF HIS BOSSES DOES) !!!

why dont you do them by post to birmingham?

i did 2 passports via special delivery post both ways it cost me £8.20 which is alot cheaper and alot less hassle than goin there and fetching them!! im buggered if im gona stand in a queue for like 4hrs in the cold lol and then still may not get me cos they wont issue u a ticket !

my visa took 12 days to get there and back to me which for this time of year is damn good

have fun if ur goin in person.rather you than me lol

cu in india folks xx

If you're going to do it by post, maybe London would be a better option?

Never done it myself, but the usual feedback here is good for their postal service.
