Sorry if this seems like a dumb question
but I can't get through to the HCI by phone...My partner and I want to get our tourist visas organised as quickly as possible, by applying in person. However, he is not able to get there quite so easily and he's asked me to take his passport, photos and application form on his behalf. Can anyone tell me if this will be accepted, or when they say you have to go in person, do they mean it literally? TIA |

I don't know because we've always applied in person or by post but a lot of travel companies apply on behalf of customers and seem to have no problems - could be they have special arrangements. Sorry, can't help on this.

Cheers Alan. I actually went there this morning with both applications and it was fine, you just need to tell the guy when you get the 'queue tickets' how many applications you have. Some people in there seemed to have taken in 4 or 5 on behalf of other people.
The place is completely chaotic though - I got there at 8.30am and only left at midday...! |

Three and a half hours is an improvement on some years ago! They've got a pretty efficient system going now. You used to have to pick it up the following day and they used to really keep you in suspense with the postal service - wondering if the passport with visa would actually arrive before your flight date. It always did of course.
Please note that your visa starts on the date of issue - not on the date of entry into India. People are always getting into problems with this especially if they want to stay in India for the full 6 months. Enjoy your visit! |
