Applying for Visa

Hi All

I am new to this site, hoping I am posting correctly.

I am going to Goa next Feb 08, last visited Nov 06 but had terrible trouble applying for a visa, had to send away to Madrid and took 2 months to come back, plus when I phoned the Embassy no one knew anything regarding my visa application, it was a real worry! My husband and I live in Mallorca, my husband is Spanish and holds a Spanish passport and I am British and hold a British passport, can we apply for a new visa in the UK or do you have to apply in the country you live? I am visiting Hull in the UK in Dec and was wondering where the closest visa office or visa surgery would be, if it is possible for me to apply for a new visa in the UK. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Regards
Island Girl

1) You can apply in any country (except India!), but it will take longer if it is not your home country (a few days extra is typical, so that they can make enquiries).

2) There are offices in London, Edinburgh and Birmingham. Surgeries are held at other places, but you'd need to look up the dates (see link below). All three main Consulates will normally process applications the same day - hand the form and passport over in the morning and go back in the afternoon to get the visa.

Here's the London web site - you will find the others from there: http://www.hcilondon.net/

The Visa Surgery schedule is here: http://www.hcilondon.net/visa/visa-s...hedule-07.html

Should not be any problem

For a British national to get visa from UK. but the visa for a Spanish National from London could be difficult. But I think it is better try with some travel agents. I know there are Travel agents helping in getting Indian visa even in Mallorka.

Hi Folks
I have noticed on the HCI London website that they are no longer accepting visa applications by post. You have to apply now through certain travel agents which they provide a list of.
I am not sure if this changes the price.

Regards,
Remy

A telephone call to the embassy, get a persons name for reference. Submit the application FAO the 'person' and I guarantee you will get the service that you require.

It always worked for me in the past, not just for India either.

NB: What do you do with the unsolicited fliers? How do you behave to a direct human approach?

From the High Commission site...

... ... we have enlisted the assistance of accredited Travel Agents across the consular jurisdiction of the High Commission of India, London to accept applications on behalf of the High Commission of India, London.
Outsourcing, eh?

Thanks for the alert on this, I'll update the Visa FAQ accordingly.

See the HCI announcement and list of agents here

For your FAQ, etc. I just checked the Birmingham site (http://www.cgibirmingham.org/mainindx.html), and they accept postal applications as well as Edinburgh. So London is the odd one out!

Maybe its because London would have a big Indian population requiring Visas leading to pure overload of the system.
Hopefully Birmingham and Edinburgh will continue to accept postal applications........i just dont like the idea of having to post my passport to a travel agent.
We are sort of out on a limb here in Northern Ireland.

Remy
