applying for new visa from within india?

i am currently based in bangalore, with a one-year multi-entry tourist visa that is expiring this month (nov 2009). i realize that tourist visas are not extendable, so i guess my only option is to apply for a brand new visa.
i have only been able to find info on how to convert and/or extend other visa types (i.e. application to ministry of home affairs in delhi).
is it possible to apply for a new visa to india from within india? if so, do i have to travel to delhi?
your help would be much appreciated!

You have to leave India and apply for an entirely new visa from outside the country. You don't necessarily have to return to your home country to apply for a new tourist visa, but often tourist visas issued by Indian consulates in countries other than the applicant's home country are for a shorter duration than would be given if the applicant were applying from his/her home country. Ordinarily, if you are going to apply for some type of visa other than "Tourist," you have to do it from your home country.
