Applying for Indian Visa in the U.S.

Sooooo super confused about which web site and how to apply for a tourist visa for India. Also I will be in South Africa for a month before I head to India...when and how do I receive my visa? It is effective from the time you apply right? I don't want to get it 5months ahead of time....

You can apply for 6-month or 10-year visa, and if you're in San Francisco, it only takes one or two days. If you're going to apply by post, you'll have to give it more time.

Question: What date is my visa valid from?
Answer: The visa is valid beginning on the day it is issued. So a 6 Month visa issued on January 1 would be valid until June 30.

To avoid the bother of timing it out closely, consider applying for a 10-year visa. You're gonna wanna go back anyway, and after three trips (I think it is) you've amortized the cost of the visa.

Or apply for it in South Africa. It takes longer out of home country and some consulates will not accept such..
