Presumably they are expecting proof of residency because you did not send them either the additional form which is necessary for non UK residents, or the additional £10 clearance fee.

This requirement is set out on the VFS website under Preparing your application / Documents required and is also included in the table of Visa fees; as so many who have posted on here with difficulties have found, it really is necessary to read the site carefully.

I have none of these, as at the time I was a minor and had no bank statement / parents payed utility bills.
Not sure what you mean by a minor "at the time", unless you mean that you have just had your 16th birthday.

To qualify for an India visa under UK residency, therefore avoiding the referral form / fee, you have to have been living in the UK for the last 12 months. When did you arrive?

LONDON POSTAL STRIKE

To those who have concerns about postal applications during the current strike period, I thought I'd let you know that Special Delivery, which is the only sensible way to post valuable items such as passports, will be unaffected.

Quote:
Royal Mail Service Information Statement:
We will continue to deliver Special Delivery™ and Royal Mail Tracked™ items in all areas of London this week. The Special Delivery™ guarantee will remain in place for items posted into and out of London throughout this period. We’re advising customers who need items to be guaranteed for delivery during this period to use Special Delivery™.

Very quick service at the moment.

Had appointments last Friday for my visa and my girlfriend's (was taking both myself) at different times, but was able to deal with both at the same time. Used pre-paid special delivery enevelopes and I received my passport this morning complete with 6 month visa.

Just sent our visa applications off in the post and they came back within a week, no problems, cheaper than a train journey to Edinburgh and dealing with the 'friendly' staff. Its a shame it has been outsourced but if it gets the job done...

What a carry on!

After completing the application form, when I try to schedule an appointment it gives the messgae 'please wait, the appointment system has been blocked for the allocation purpose' - what?! I'd be very grateful for any help as am planning to submit & collect my visa in person & hopefully asap! Haylo - I know, I should've sorted it ages ago

just got mine from Birmingham in person, turned out to be very easy and quick (there was a bit of an issue with my signature not exactly matching my passport signature (as i got my passport when i was 13!) but all i had 2 do was write a letter to accompany my form stating my signature has changed slightly.

Try again today by logging in with your web reference number. If you still can't get an appointment, take your printed out application and go to a Visa Application Centre anyway - explain that you have applied online but couldn't book an appointment and they'll see you anyway.

Quick Service

Hi

I was very impressed with the VISA Service, I filled in the form online, paid online, and sent it off via special delivery on the Monday, it was back in my hands by the Friday morning, so it took 5 working days in total via post.....not bad!!!!

Why don,t the indian embassy offer a 12 month visa for an extra charge? Were they to offer me that option i would pay lots more. This would save me the expense of leaving after 6 months for a renewal. Thousands of people do this all the time, have to go to Nepal, Sri lanka, Bangkok. Surely this would be a good earner for india!
