| That sounds about right. It should say somewhere about choosing your office - maybe its earlier in the process and you'll have to amend your original application - you should be able to do this online. Then you will be able to make an appointment for London. Read the checklist document carefully Go down they'll check it through and then fingers crossed everything should be OK and 2-3 days later you'll have it in the post. Maybe if you have time you could go tomorrow, you should be able to make an appointment still (before midnight) and have your visa back by next Wednesday/Thursday. Mines due in the post on Tuesday - I won't be happy until its in my hand though - after reading all the stories on here. Good Luck, Michael |

| Modify If you click on Apply online and go through the preliminary pages you'll come to a page where it says "Modify/Retrieve Visa Application/s" as an option you should be able to change the office to London then and then make your appointment in London. Don't forget to reprint a new copy with this change. Michael |

| Don't know what to do if its greyed out.... You might have to go to London without an appointment and queue. I hope they wouldn't make you re-apply totally as you had put the wrong office down.... Hopefully Asmithee or Haylo can advise. Michael |

No - it makes no difference what office you have selected when filling out the form. The location details you select do not appear anywhere on VFS system when they retrieve your application, or even on the printout of your form.

| Filling In Forms, London Hci - Important! Hi guys - just wanted to make people aware that the London HCI are starting to get a little bit picky when it comes to information on forms - particularly if anything is left blank. Unfortunately, it seems that this may also include the Indian referees section, which we had previously said was not mandatory for a tourist visa. My advice at the moment would be to make sure you fill in ALL sections. For the Indian referees, even if you just put the name of the hotel it's better than nothing at all. For other sections that do not apply, just put NA. But please try and be as truthful and honest as possible. Best not to assume that 'they don't need to know that' etc. Just to give you some guidance, the areas of the form to pay particular attention to are - Previous nationality - not a good idea to leave this blank, you don't know what records the HCI hold. Foreign nationality id - if you have one, or have ever had one you must declare it. Occcupation - the professions that you may need to follow different procedures for are as follows... Police, Forces, Pilots, Charity workers, Religious ministers all have to provide letters from employers or personal undertakings stating they are only going for tourism, and will not be partaking in any of their normal field of work. Media related occupations...journalists, directors, producers, researchers, photographers, cameramen, producers etc also need a similar letter from employer - plus they will also need to go on a JTV visa. This is a Journalist/Tourist visa, a sort of hybrid of the two. Costs 65.00, plus the VFS fee. Oh, and please...if you are a company director, please write 'company director'. The amount of people who just write 'director', and then wonder why they are asked for letters of undertaking... Father/mother name, present nationality. previous nationality - this is one of the sections the HCI scrutinise the most, and the one that you should never, ever leave blanks on. You should never assume that because your parents/grandparents are deceased the information does not apply - it does. Never just write deceased instead of a name. |

| Whoimi, Thats good news from Asmithee but I think the computer will issue an appointment for Birmingham as thats the office you put down and it does mention the address on the bottom of the appointment card you download. Get there early 7.30am ish and you'll be at the front of the queue whatever happens. Maybe somebody can give you advice on the least busy office in London and the waiting times if you don't have an appointment. It certainly helps if you printed your application rather than wrote it by hand as these seem to get put to the back of the queue. Hope it all works out, Michael. Quote:
Thanks Asmithee for the invaluable advice - if we all took it there would be much less finger nail biting and pulling out of hair (if I had some)..... Michael Last edited by brownboy66; Mar 6th, 2009 at 15:10.. Reason: merged sequential posts

| I'm just filing out my application online. I need to know what to put in the "address in India" and "sponser" sections. I have no hotel booked yet so should i just choose a random hotel in delhi and put its address. And what should I do for "sponser"? ![]() |

| Have a look at Asmithees post no.1554 just above yours. I put my brother and friend for UK sponsers and Not Applicable (NA) for the Indian Sponsers. They seemed happy to accept this at the Birmingham Office, but I don't have my visa back yet to say for definite. But Asmithee says try to fill all sections if you can and avoid putting relatives as referees and this advice is probably best. Have a look at some of the recent posts there are many opinions on this topic and some good advice around page 99 and 100 on this forum. Michael Last edited by spudseven; Mar 6th, 2009 at 19:28.. | Visa Processing times this week? I understand the VFS or is it the Embassy that is closed on Tuesday 10th? I am leaving on Thursday evening. I am a non-Uk citizen, but am a permanent resident. (been here 5 years). I have had a couple of Visas in the past - most recently 9 months ago. If I apply on Monday morning (I assume I can apply online over the weekend & pay) - anyone know what the chances are of getting my passport back by Thursday morning? Also - I am going for both tourist & medical reasons - i.e. going to a health center. Can I still apply for a tourist visa? |
