Applying for an Indian Tourist Visa in Kuala Lumpur

I am in KL and wanted to get a visa for India from here.
I heard it wasn't possible and my own research confirms this.
I found a 03 2692 2692 number for the India visa section.
There was an intro then numbered options, number 7 was for foreign passport holders. It stated very clearly that this was only way for foreign passport holders to get an Indian visa was if they were resident in Malaysia, for at least 2 years.

The man steveinoz05 who seemed to have charmed his way past the rules never posted if his application was successful. I assume it wasn't and he was too embarrassed to own up, or else he didn't want to start a precedent that would make life hard for the Indian consulate.

You can definitely start your visa application in KL because there is a Malaysian office listed when you fill out the online visa application with VFS but I don't know where it would take you, I assume you would be turned away when you went to the office in person to continue the application (is that the stage when steveinoz05 paid the 50 Ringit and had to wait...........?)

Why are they making it harder and harder to get a Visa?!

Mate..ours is not to question why....(unless ya want a coronary and or mental breakdown!)...ours is but to work your way around this... My best advice is for you to go to Thailand...you do NOT have to go up to Bangers any more..the Mob who handles the visa applications now have drop off points around thailand..(vist their website and look where..eg phuket and Surat Thani...)..where you can drop off your application..(the printed version of the online one you need to lodge)..along with your pictures..(dont forget the new size needed of these pp photos)...and your cash...these docs are then couriered to Bangkok for processing, and returned to you at that place after like 10 days...if you dont want to collect them from bangkok......for a relativly small fee..(a lot less than any unscrupulous agent handling fee anyhow)... So..heres ya plan of attack..lodge ya online docs now..grab a cheap flight to surat thani ((suss out air asia for a hopeful bargain?))(gateway to samui, phang ang and tao islands) stay a nite there..lodge ya doccys...get a ferry to the islands..chill pill for a week or so..and get back to mainland to pick up ya visa..and resume your onwards and upwards trip to muvver india...good luck!

My experience as a US citizen, non-resident in KL, Jan 2013:

- got all the documentation in order
- visited IVS Global
- friendly staff hinted that I might have better luck in Bangkok
- took a trip to Bangkok, got a visa (applied for multiple entry, got dual)

Note that IVS would have accepted my application. But I had a strong feeling it would have been a waste of time and money.

I managed to get one, but only with a Malaysian work permit and took two weeks and three visits to their JB branch. Cost about 500rm (recent price hike). Annoyingly they only give a 30 day multiple entry over 6 months, so was not worth it in the end. I tried to get one for my fiance too, and I think it would have been possible if I wrote a suitably pleading letter (she is not a Malaysian resident).

That's weird people are still saying they weren't able to get it. This website says you can.

Or is that only for Malaysian passports? I just noticed that, but not too clear.

Yes, I also just read that too before jumping back on this website. It says liable, which probably means likely, but not certainly. That's a risk I know many are not willing to take, but I wonder if recently people actually tried while giving all proper documents.

Despite the liable statement, it still gives out the guidelines and details on how to apply. That makes it a gray area of you having a chance to get a visa or not. If they would flat out 100% reject visas, they would just say so like many other instances. So there is a way to get it done. It would be great if someone could answer what that discrepancy was.
