Applying for an Indian tourist visa in Bangkok

He sent me an email. Bangkok are only issuing 3 months. He must go to the UK if he wants more. I will update again when he gets back............

I haven't been a resident for 3 years, so, I guess this explains some things. Have they changed the 6 month visa since the beginning of the year to a 3 month?

It looks like they're either trying to lighten their work load or trying to stop people hopping over for a quick visa rather than a longer journey to their home country. I can't see the point you're either OK for a visa or not!
I suspect it's the former as people coming back from the UK with new visas are getting better treatment now.

Anyone know of an alternative place to have the special blue background visa photos taken for less than 250BHAT?

I am a UK citizen and have just spent 6 months in India (visa expired 30/6). I am now in Thailand and will also be visiting Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam in my 8 weeks out of India. I need a new six month Indian visa from Bangkok which I plan to apply for just before I fly from Bangkok back to India. I don't fly home to the UK until 19th January 2009 so a 3 month visa is no good as I don't want to have to leave India again.

Having read the above posts regarding having to have been in Thailand for 2 months in order to get a six month visa I am concerned that as I will only have been out of India for 56 days will that be long enough? Also will it matter that I was in other countries other than Thailand during the 56 days? I am going to email the embassy and the sourcing centre but as we all know what you get told and what happens can be very different!

Does anyone have any idea?

I just got a six month India visa right after entering Thailand. NO PROBLEM.

Hudef, how did you manage to get a new visa in Bangkok??.
Which passport do you have??.
Im hearing they are only giving 3 months, if you have not spent 2 months in Thailand.

I hold a Canadian passport. The form has option for 1, 3, and 6 months. I don't know if the price differs. Anyway its just a standard option now.

I am British and am in Bangkok now. Thought my experience yesterday would be helpful but first a little background.

Was in India from 9/1/08 - 28/6/08 backpacking on a six month visa obtained from HCI in London. Flew out on 28th and have been in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia etc since then. I return to India on 23rd Aug.

I return to the UK on 19th Jan 09 and need a six month visa. I will not have been out of India for more than 2 months when I return.

Emailed the outsourcing place before visiting with the above info and got very prompt reply to all emails. Was informed I would be sent for interview at the embassy as I would be applying for a new visa and had not been out of India for 2 months. I specifically stated that I would need a six month visa and at no point in any replies did they indicate this would be a problem - the email implied that if we went for interview and explained the situation then it should be OK.

What actually happened was this.

*Arrived at Glas Haus building at 9am - filled out forms(by the way our photos had white backgrounds and were accepted without question).
*Given a slip of paper and the the forms and told to go for interview at the embassy.
*Explained situation to bloke at embassy who said I can only authorise a 3 month visa because this is our policy. If you want six month I have to send all paperwork to India by fax and wait and see what they say. Asked how long it would take to get response and after him saying about six times "it will take some time" I finally got the fantastically vague timescale of "maybe 2 weeks, maybe 3 weeks or maybe more". Explained that we fly in just over 3 weeks and he just shrugged and said you may not have enough time then.
* He said he would agree to authorise a 3 month visa that would be issued to me that day but that he would also take my name and when the forms were sent over for the visa later in the day from Glas Haus he would fax them to India. It was very clear that he in fact would not do this at all and that I was an inconvenience even being there. I am sure the bit of paper was in the bin before I was even out of the building.
*He signed his name, wrote the date and wrote 3mths but not in the box on the form where he should have done just at the top of the page and sent me on my way.
* back to Glas Haus with form signed in wrong place and the impossibly nice thai man behind the desk says "why did he not sign in the box and why has he not put in the remarks section in the box that you can have the 3 month visa today?" There was then much discussion and he said I could either go back and get him to sign it in the right place and put a remark that it could be issued today or he could submit it as normal and I could come back in 5 days.

At this point the will to live had left me and as I had no doubt that the bloke at the embassy would not be very helpful if I went back and as I have time before I leave again for India I said I would come back after 5 days.

So I will be getting a 3 month visa next week and this means I will have to fork out to leave India again at the end of October and go to Kathmandu or Colombo for another 3 month one to take me to the end of my trip in January. (any suggestions from recent ACTUAL experience how long this takes in either place).

So my advice is if you want a six month visa from Bangkok make sure you apply with plenty of time to spare before you return to India. If I had known all of this when I first arrived in Bangkok on 28th June I would have applied there and then and would (probably) had a response from India by now.

I feel like you all read my mind- I was searching for how a UK citizen could get another Indian tourist visa without having to go back to the UK to get one. Your advice on Bangkok is great- we are going to plan to go there and do this when our current visas run out at the start of December.

Im in Mumbai at the moment, spoke to an English guy last night who just got a 6 month tourist in K.L. but it was his first, so not sure on multi visas.

By the way, I am from Sweden, do you think they will give me a six-months-visa? Or just a three-months one? I've read some different info re. this. I WANT a six-months one, but someone informed me that they only give three-months ones in BKK. What gives?
Another question re. the photographs; I want to prepare beforehand, so what exactly is the size of the photos, and was it blue background?

They don't really make things easier nowadays, do they?
