Apostille for a PIO??? HELP

My husband is French and we have been married for almost one year (12th July it will be one year) and we want to apply for a PIO. Apparently we need to register our marriage with the French government before we apply for a PIO. I am getting a little worried about it and need help. Please help us with the following:
1. What is this appostille? Do we need to register our marriage with the French embassy/ government before applying for a PIO?
2. What papers will we require?
3. I have the forms for the PIO and all the necessary papers but have no clue how long the registration would take with the French Govt. or how long the PIO application would take?
If anyone has any experience in this please help us. I am worried that he might have to leave or be deported or something. his x visa is valid till the 8th of August.

Thank you

'apparently' according to whom? All the Indian Government should be interested in is your Indian marriage, and the French government has no interest in your PIO.

I won't try to explain what an appostile is --- because I only learnt about them last week! Google will do a far better job than I can; you'll probably find that there is a name for the same concept in your language.

I'm British; I married an Indian citizen in India, and we have an Indian Marriage Certificate. That's all it took for getting my PIO Card; no involvement with British government stuff at all.

Application for PIO, where entitlement is clear, like having an old Indian passport (for one-time Indian Citizens) or a not-so-old Indian spouse (for those of us married to Indians), it should not take long. Weeks or, at worst, months.

I was lucky: our application was handled by people we were already known to at Chennai, so there was no further investigation and it took only a week.
