Anyone have up to date info for getting Visa in Sri Lanka?

I will be going to India in January, but will be out of my home country (USA) for a month before that. I want to maximize my time in India and am hoping I can get a visa in Sri Lanka, or maybe Thailand. I have not found conclusive answers on this process. Has any one been successful recently? I would want to obtain a 6 month visa...

Why not bite the bullet and apply for a 10-year visa, then you don't have to mess around in Sri Lanka?

I have heard mixed reports but believe that the preponderance now favors 6 months vs 3..

Cool, Thanks for suggesting the ten year. Seems like it is easy to get as it appears. That may be a good bet.

As an American, the ten-year visa option allows you to do exactly what you propose. Arrive in India whenever you want, and stay 6 months. Then leave and stay out for a 2-month exile, and then you can come back again whenever you like for up to six months.

Unless you or your parents have Pakistani origins, in which case your whole visa application will be much delayed.

Hello Patlambdin,

If you are planning to stay beyond 30 days in Sri Lanka, then you MUST apply tourist visa valid for three months.

Document required for the visa are as follows:
Filled out and signed Sri Lanka tourist visa application form Original, signed India passport with at least 6 months of remaining validity.
Passport-type photographs: 2, Itinerary. Copy of round trip tickets or itinerary, Foreign Exchange or Credit Card copy. Applicant must provide Foreign Exchange or Credit Card copy

Also while doing online search came to know that, VFS Global manages visa application centres for the UK Border Agency here in Sri Lanka, where you should submit your completed visa application form, supporting documents and biometric data. You can also email or phone (call rates apply) the VFS Global call centre if you have a general enquiry about UK visas or the visa application process.

I hope the above information is useful to you.

Thanks,
Roahn.
