Any non-journalist occupations to keep quiet about?

I know that declaring yourself a journalist (or anything journalist-like) on your visa application can earn you some hassles; are there any other (non-obvious) occupations to avoid listing?

For example, would "HIV health educator" get me into any trouble? Should I leave out the HIV part and stick with "health educator," or would that smack of missionary work?

Apologies if I missed this topic in my search. Thanks for your suggestions.

how about health professional?

do you have professional qualifications? eg nurse, teacher that lead you to this current occupation?

Spy?

That might raise some eyebrows .

I agree with IWTGB... I'd put health worker or some such.

  • Accountant.
  • Secretary
  • Civil servant (unless you come from a country on the axis of evil).
  • House wife.
  • Teacher.
  • Sanitary worker (if you're a garbage collector of dish washer).

The more boring, the better!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not a health care provider, but the core of my job is to provide health information to the public, so "health educator" seemed reasonably accurate.

Thanks again, all!
