An Increase in India Visa Fees for UK Nationals as of Jan 2013
And if you are applying to a non-London office (to comply with their "regional rules", you have even less time!
From VFS website..............
Date of Notice: 11 January 2013.
The High Commission of India has revised the visa fee for Tourist Visa and Research Visa for all UK nationals with effect from 17 January 2013.
The revised visa fee is applicable from 16 January 2012 onwards at this office due to the transit time. Applicants can submit the applications with the existing visa fee until 16 January 2012 at all offices in London, Birmingham and Edinburgh
Postscript
It has just been pointed out that the morons at VFS can't even get the year right!

If you notice, there's a pattern. Visa costs are relatively the same for each country. In other words, It cost about $160 for an Indian to get a visa to the US. It costs $166 the other way.
It costs 50 eurors for an Indian to visit Russia. It costs roughly the same otherwise. It cost 300 British pounds for an Indian to visit brittan for 2 years. It costs a Brit 200 pounds for the same thing.
See what I mean?

Nope,
how many British people visit India as tourists, move in with resident family and effectively disappear off the face of the earth?
Just comparing like for like, out of fairness.................

Do these new fees only apply to Tourist and Research visas, not Business and others?

I think you're exactly right. Over at the tripadvisor India forum, a lot of Brits were pissed off about the increase. I'd probably be complaining too, but really, from an objective point of view, it seems like England's "visa costs" (I include the $300 in taxes it costs to land at Heathrow) are very high.

A recent article in the National Geographic Traveller argued that travel was a right and all visas should be free..
