Unhappy 3 month visa restriction

I went to the Indian High Commission in London last week to get a 6 month tourist visa, but was told I would only be allowed a 3 month visa-even though I have planned and booked for a 4 month trip.

When I asked why the woman said it was because I was of a different origin.

I explained to her that I was born in the UK, I am a British citizen and have a valid UK passport, but she said because my parents were born in Nigeria 3 months is all I can get.

I have resigned myself to the fact that there is nothing I can do about it, I can't afford to go and comeback or go somewhere nearby and apply again. But if anyone has had a similar experience, knows why it's like this or has any info or opinion to share it would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Sympathy.

I'm sure a friend of mine, of Nigerian origin, recently got a 6-monther, whilst his girl friend was restricted to 3 months because she was Sri Lankan.

That's harsh. You should complain to your government; the Indian High Commission can't discriminate on the basis of national origin or race. It's disgusting.

Unfortunately, visa policies are inherently racial, and there's not much you can do about it. This is true of all countries, not just India. If you have some political connections, that might be your only recourse to getting a longer visa.

That's a bummer! Can't you afford Bangladesh perhaps. There's a train service out of Kalkota!

Not a lot you can do about this embassies powers are absolute when it come to issuing visa and don't they know it. Like merchant say there's a a lot of racial stereotyping in the visa game. Sorry you had to be on the negative end of things!

By the way how did they figure you were of Nigerian origin!! Did you tell them on the application form!!
