vegetarian ghee
Ghee (made from cow's milk)is freely available in Germany (Butterschmalz) and Switzerland (Bratbutter). Indian "Vanaspati Ghee" is made to look like ghee made from buffalo-milk.

Or consider grapeseed oil. I believe it's as healthy as olive oil but has a much higher smoking point – better for searing and frying. Also, it's comparatively flavorless, unlikely to introduce the unexpected flavors that olive oil might. Never ever use margarine or vanaspati unless you want to die early(that's the least i can say). Just use plain white butter if ghee is not available.

Vanaspati Ghee is actually made using edible oil.
Vanaspati ghee is a fully or partially hydrogenated vegetable cooking oil, often used as a cheaper substitute for ghee. In India, vanaspati ghee is usually made from palm oil. Hydrogenation is performed using a catalyst known as "supported nickel catalyst", in reactors at low-medium pressure (3-10 bar).

Several people treat it bad for heath.

I have been wondering if you can use Vitalite Vegetable Spread to make your own, it is pure vegetable spread (not margarine) and is vegan, dairy free and has no hydrogenated oils.

One important paragraph from this review:
Analyzing NutritionI hold no brief in this subject, and I do not know who The Charlotte Regional Medical Center are nor how authoritative they might be.
The Charlotte Regional Medical Center's dietitians offer a guide to selecting a heart-healthy margarine. In it, they suggest you choose a butter replacement with 2 or fewer g of saturated fat per serving and as little trans fat as possible. They note that margarines can claim "zero trans fat" if the product contains less than 0.49 g per serving. To find out whether a product contains unlisted trans fat, just add up the total fat grams per serving listed and subtract the amounts of saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats; anything left over is trans fat. Since Vitalife contains 3 g of saturated fat per serving and 0.1 g of trans fat, it falls just short of these dietitians' recommendations.
