Just discovered this thread. Thanks - I will definitely be trying the pumpkin curry and the 5 dal dish!

Does anyone have any tried and tested recipies for south Indian fish / prawn dishes? That's 1 thing I miss and have yet to really find.
thanks

I've also just recently discovered this thread and I wondered if anyone had compiled an internet book of all the receipes listed. At the momment I can happily get lost on this thread for hours which is not good for my employers. If no one has done it already I could move in that direction and put it up as a what? Blog? As you can tell I'm hopeless in the computer department.

An Indian foodie blog

I know there are tons of websites with recipes (some better than others) but blogs - haven't come across any so far. Also not sure what a blog would add to this list though? Any ideas? unless you base it on things like what's in season (but where in the world do you base it) and what you are cooking tonight, it's sucess - ratings etc, who for ...

Still waiting for a tried and tested south Indian Fish curry!! Any suggestions anyone?

A couple of handfuls of red lentils (about 1 cup)
3-4 cups of water
Salt to taste
2-3 teaspoons Turmeric
1-2 large onions
1-2 green chilis
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
1-2 small cloves fresh garlic, minced
3-4 tomatoes, diced
1/8 cup chopped coriander leaf (cilantro)
2 teaspoons whole mustard seed
1 teapoon whole cumin seed
2 teaspoons vegetable oil

Cook lentils and turmeric in water until lentils are completely soft. About 40 minutes.

Meanwhile, saute onions, chilis, ginger, and garlic. When soft, add diced tomatoes. Continue cooking until mixture appears homogenous.

Add onion-tomato mixture to lentils. While over low flame, add corainder leaf.

In a small pan, heat oil. Toast mustard seed and cumin seed in oil until fragrant. Add to lentil mixture.

Serve dal hot over rice or as side dish.

I found in on the net, but don't remember where... The quantities of spices should be adjusted for individual taste, I added my personal quantity, so better try it before you serve it!
Mmm, good dahl recipe; I made it last night, it was delish.
