bataka poha (potatoe puff rice)
Sorry, poha are not puff rice. I am not sure what they are called in English but I guess it has to be called rice flakes. Puff rice are called mumra in gujarati. (FYI)

I think the recipe given by timbotron is called 'Batate(Potato) Pohe' in Marathi. There is another variant which is called 'Kande (Onion)Pohe' in which potatoes are not used. Normally, thick poha is used in both these items.
These are served in some of the restaurants in Maharashtra specialising in serving Maharashtrian dishes. I have also seen Batate/Kande Pohe sprinkled with Phomegranates being served in many road side dhabas in Indore-Ujjain areas of Madhya Pradesh.

If you are travelling by train, then perhaps the best Poha can be had at Mhow station on the Indore - Khandwa meter gauge line. I had it at 0530 on a monsoon morning along with freshly brewed platform chai... trust me, it was a combination you'd find hard to beat

Wow, thanks everyone for your replies. I had no idea poha was such a phenomenon!

Just to clarify, yes, I used flaked (not puffed) rice in my recipe, and the end result looked the same as the poha I had for breakfast in Aurangabad and Bhopal.

Getting hungry again...
