Paani Poori

So what do you like in your pooris?

chopped potato
channa daal (chickpeas)
chopped onion
chopped coriander
chopped green chilies

green water
tamarind water

Anything else? I'm planning to take some to a Thanksgiving party and want to have a good variety of things.

I have a recipe for the green water, but just in case it isn't any good I was planning to get one of the premade masala boxes. Anybody have a good brand?

I'm just going to get the premade pooris from the store. Any tricks, like putting them in a warm oven to crisp them up or anything like that? Or should they be good to go?

Hey Rothrock! Evil edsita wants to know how the gulkand project went! Did everyone love your paan box?

I love the channa daal, green water combination on my little pooris. Although I haven't treid it out, I would imagine the premade ones in a box would be a bit nicer if you stuck them in a hot oven for just a few minutes to freshen them up.

Hi EE (Evil Edsita )! I just bought premade gulkand. The pooris are actually for the same party that I need to take all the paan fixin's. I've posted pictures of my completed box in that thread. You can see the gulkand (taken out of the plastic jar that it came in) in the largest jar on the right side of the box.

Yeah it just seems like a good idea to me to pop them in an oven for a bit. (My neighborhood they don't come in a box, just a big plastic bag!)

I'm trying to figure out how to do the sprouted moong bean. If I get the whole ones how many days does it take to sprout them? Anybody?

Also for the cooking, I don't have a pressure cooker. Can I just boil them?

Just had some yummy home made paani pooris yesterday. Well
I hope you get the right dried chick peas, the ones that taste good are called in Hindi "safed vatana". They are boiled with salt and turmeric, and kept steaming hot on the tava. So you get the added sensation of the hot chickpeas and the cold paani.Mouth watering. And yes,any other ingredients are good, the mung beans are well suited. Some even use the boondi.

HAve fun and let's know what happened at your party!

Thanks for the suggestion I found the safed vatana. (I'm taking a can of chickpeas as back up.) I'm going to do a test run on my sister and her husband the day before Thanksgiving so hopefully I can make it work.

This party is going to be over the top. Two of my friends are having 30 + 10 birthdays and there will be a bunch of folks.

Gave it a trial run at my sister's place last night. Three goras in the woods of New Hampshire really enjoyed them. The safed vatana were very simple to cook and made it extra delicious. Thank you so much for the tips on that. I've always been a bit intimidated by the dried daals.
