I've never done it, but I think the basic procedure is quite simple. Friends of mine used to do it, involving mostly a couple of plastic garbage bags, a few large glass jugs and some tubes I think (and a lot of patience and an awful stench). Getting it to taste anything like palatable is then a matter of trial & error. Try http://www.thegreenguide.org/article/diy/wine ; this came up on a search for +making +wine +yourself +DIY, you could juggle the keywords around some. Beer should be similarly simple.

The temperature shouldn't be a problem. Yeast naturally occur and thrive on fruit in India so are adpated to temperatures of 40degrees C+. Yeast for bread making survive O.K. Might be an idea to purchase a yeast specifically for wine making as they are more alcohol tolerant.

A bread yeast is not recommended but might have to do. French wine yeasts are better. I'm more concerned with airlocks, food grade polythene etc. to keep it clean from airborne yeasts. Best fermentation temp is about up to 25 c.

My breakfast every morning:

2 crushed weetabix (my guilty expat pleasure) mixed with milk until it becomes a mush. Cut up a mango in a seperate bowl, stir in the excess juice, add mango chunks and enjoy!

Surgical/medical suppliers that also provide equipment for schools etc might stock airlocks or find a friendly glassblower. Getting the right plastic might be a case of experimentation!

While you guys have a chat about the wine equipment I want to ask the ladies -1. Rochelle - What is Cool Whip - that dessert sounds scrumptious. and 2. Margot -Can you get weetabix in Delhi - I am off for my 2 days journey to Delhi leaving early tomorrow morning for Jodhpur and on my way back home 6 weeks later thought I might try and get some because your breakfast sounds delicious and makes a change from my muesli and fruit!!! We used to have it in NZ spread with butter and marmite or vegemite or honey and I loved that! If you put answers i might be awhile replying because i am not taking my computer and don't know when next I will get to one. But be assured I will be checking, thanks ladies!

That's a good one. It will give me a base to work on. I can get things like wine yeast and airlocks posted here if need be.

Will let you know. It's next on the list. Another monsoon-loon idea. We have to keep ourselves occupied. A few of us have been doing a bit of cooking and taking it to a friend's bar to share.

That's insane...I pay 135/box here (although some of the shops sell it for up to 200) but 500...good God man!
