Vandy

That was me in Ooty at the fudge shops. First time being sick I could definitively trace it back to what and where I ate and not blame some kind of mystery bug

Quite a few typical Punjabi sweets have been already mentioned and overlap with sweets from other northern states.

Some of them and my favourites are.

Jalebi (with hot milk and without)
Ladoo
Khoye di Barfi
Khoye da gajrela
Kheer with soggi(made with milk)
Kheer with soggi (made with rass .. (sugarcane juice))yum yum
Parsad with soggi

This is all making my mouth water....

I'm surprised that you and Shashank haven't heard the word before.

Here it is in Punjabi and Hindi (using Capn's excellent link, Quillpad)

ਸੌਗੀ, सौगी

I have heard about Soggi, but was not sure what it was. I belong to a non-punjabi household and my knowledge of Punjabi comes from friends and neighbors.

Well in Mumbai some people call it Mahim Halwa... but it is as rubbery, as sweet and as oily (or is their a word Gheey) as the Delhi Halwa you describe...
That particular Halwa called Dilli Halwa or Karachi Halwa or Mahim Halwa is made of arrowroot flour and ghee and sugar. The Bombay shop called Joshi Budhakaka Mahim Halwawalla claims they invented it alongwith the ice halwa.

Ice Halwa

That's another addition to the list ICE HALWA. Thin crisp slices of coloured flavoured arrowroot sweet flour..

Goand is गोन्द as in gum. A resin exudation from a particular plant or plants. The gum from Babool is used maximum in sweets, I believe. Goand paak is meant more for newly wed couples .... believed to be an aphrodisiac or something.

Children are given very small quantities of goand paak for this reason. And the newly weds get to eat most of it when they are around.
