Wink Indian Sweets

I wonder if Indian sweets have been declared addictive and dangerous in other countries, perhaps even banned. Never encountered anything so wonderful in both taste and variety. Some of the Indian restaurants where I live in Berkeley, CA, USA provide every shape and size. Can't learn the proper names due to language impairment, but that does not interfere with enjoying them. Filmed cooking of the orange pretzel when I was in Udaipur. One case where I ate what had been captured on video. At home point and eat works perfectly, sometimes as a substitute for dinner.

IntrepidBerkeleyExplorer - You have brought up a subject very dear to my heart and unfortunately, my waistline!! They need to ban me from all sweet shops in the metro NYC area. So. Tasty!!! What's your favorite sweet?

ooooo...as a former pastry chef I HAD to try every sweet I came across. For the most part, I found them..ok..but I'm french trained and love european desserts. What totally got me hopping each time was galub jamun (sp?) and whatever that custardy thing is made with condensed milk, curd I think, and TONS of cardamom. Actually, I'll eat anything with cardamom. I was definitley more partail to the syruped sweets as opposed to the dry ones, though with enough pistachios in anything I can be swayed.

Love those Indian sweets! Never could understand people complaining they were TOO sweet!

Those orange pretzel-shaped fried things are called Jalebi...they are great to watch being made. And so delicious.

This post is causing weight gain!

Cardamom,
I've never learned the names, given my terrible language skills. But it doesn't matter with Indian sweets, since every single one is my favorite while I'm eating it.

Hi everybody,
do visit Calcutta to know what sweets actually are. and do come in the winter when the sweets are prepared with the juice of date-palm trees. Well, let me tell ya one thing - if u've not yet tasted those sweets, ur exposure to life remains unfulfilled.

I totally agree, have not been to Kolkatta, but yes loved them in Siliguri. Also love the ones that come from Bikaner Belt.

Somebody tell those Kolkata sweetmakers to go back to the traditional sweets and stop the new fangled cherry on top things.

In short, Kolkata, go back to Calcutta as far as this is concerned.
