Wl6/wl7... Hi there! I am a newbie to India, leaving next week for Mumbai! Today I tried to make a reservation for the 3rd Feb from Mumbai to Solapur (from there we want to carry on to Bijapur) and the availability showed 3AC WL6/WL7 and SL WL46/WL47 or something like that. I remember reading somewhere that this means there's a waiting list, hence you must make a pre-reservation and wait for people to cancel theirs, isn't it?? Well, I know it's my fault because I've waited too much... We are two people and would like to travel on SL, but as 3AC has less people we wouldn't mind "upgrading" in order to have more chances of getting a ticket... So, my question is : if I make a reservation how will I know whether we get these berths for the given date or not??? Is it probable that at least 6-7 people turn down?? I need to make the reservation for the other train, so I am quite confused right now! Thanks for helping this disastrous-newbie! Sònia

You should be having a PNR Number with which you could check the status by various means www.indianrail.gov.in www.irctc.co.in <requires a login id> Usually with a waiting list number below 10 you would surely get a seat but just before boarding you would have to check the char to know the exact seat number/coach number as for waiting lists this is known only when the chart is prepared

with the PNR no. u can get ur latest status anytime by hitting www.indianrailways.gov.in. WL is waiting list as u already know, it can be said that ur ticket wiil be confirmed if it is within 10 waiting list but not surely. so if there r other trins available check them also. good luck and happy journey.........

Thanks for your useful replies! However the reservation page tells me I can get an i-ticket only... does this mean I have to arrange it to be delivered to my hotel in Mumbai??? I will be spending just two days there!

Oooooh... Thanks a ton Steven! You're my salvation!!! Just one more silly question please... Supposedly we can make payment with foreign credit cards, right??? Cause I don't have the slightliest idea of which option I should mark... All of them seem indian banks, and there's an american express option, but mine's VISA!!

I've never had problems booking, so really don't know what gateway, but from memory, I think you use the 2nd payment gateway, or the CITI Bank gateway. (I've seen others recommend both on indiamike)

Some credit card companies don't allow the transaction because it doesn't fit into your normal pattern, it may be worth calling them. Also, sometimes you have to be very very fast inserting all the data when trying to buy a ticket, have your account number coppied and ready to paste, and fill in all the other sections as fast as you can, this helps to avoid any timeout errors.

Great news. It's just a pity they got rid of the First Class (NOT air con) carriage, that would have been a great experience. What berths did you get? You should see 'S1-21' for example (Sleeper class Coach 1, berth 21) Have a look in the Sleeper Class thread to see if the berths are side berths or otherwise.

We got S4, 23 and 24 (that is carriage 4, berths 23 and 24, right?). It is not mentioned on my E-Reservation Slip, though, but on the ticket status online. Soooo excited! Thanks again!!! Sònia

Side upper and side lower, perfect for the daytime part of the journey. You've got the Emergency window as well, the perfect place to sit, and useful if the train crashes. ![]()

I don't think "S4" doesn't mean fourth carriage from the engine --- the numbering is more complex than that.
