As I quite often have to get waiting listed tickets and no agent will book them for me I once again have to be able to book tickets myself online. I am kind of disqualified at the moment because my old German credt card has the Verified by Visa security system which requires German Sim-card to get text messages with a once only PIN sent for each transaction ( I am living in India now).
So we have to get a debit card on the name of my husband. He has a bank account with the Bank of Baroda which offers Baroda Maestro card for Internet shopping but there is no gateway on the irctc.co.in webside for this Bank. So now I wonder if we should open a second account with the HDFC bank which also seems to give better interest rates. This is quite and urgent problem and I recently do not get out of my own city because of the hassle of getting train tickets so a new possebility to book tickets online would really get me going. Any help advice welcome!

Your husband and you can very well use HDFC Bank Gateway and use your Maestro Debit Card issued by Bank of Baroda to book tickets. It is just like using ATM of another banks.

Thank you for the new insight. Are there any advantages for a HDFC-card or you think bank of Baroda would work fine?

HDFC Bank works as service provider for the Debit Cards. Bank of Baroda Card should work fine!

There is no extra advantage as such in getting HDFC Bank Debit Card.

I was thinking it over and thought there might be another problem . The Baroda Maestro Card is suitable for internet transaction (I think each time you use the same PIN for internet transactions). Knowing that the European Verified by Visa procedure is more difficult and that the Indian Railways webside is a Verified by Visa one- is this Pin enough to make the Baroda debit card suitable for the extra security on the Verified by Visa irctc.co.in webside?
