Which class for day travel?
Which class for day travel?
Hi, this is my first time on this forum, so I hope I'm not asking something that's already been answered ad nauseum. We're booking the day train from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer (14659 Dli Jsm Express), and as we will be boarding at 5.20am and getting off at 11.30am, will not need sleeping bunks. Considering that lots of people already on the train from Delhi will still be asleep, can anyone tell me what happens if we book First class AC - do we get bunks in a cabin where maybe two others are sleeping peacefully (and therefore we'll be disturbing them), do we get provided with bedding and are then expected to lie down until others wake up, will we be taking the bunks that someone else has just got out of at Jodhpur? I had originally thought to book an ac chair, but it seems to default to sleeper class, which I'm thinking would be even more disruptive to those already on the train when we get on at that ungodly hour. I'd love to know how it works......

Welcome to IndiaMike.
The train that you are looking at has 1A, 2A, 3A and Sleeper accommodation but no chair cars. As the trip is across pretty dusty terrain I would suggest that you go for one of the AC classes. For day travel side berths in 2AC or 3 AC are a good option as long as you get a lower berth. This transforms into two seats facing each other and if your second berth is the side upper above you will be able to put your luggage up there.

The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.

Thanks Dave W! I appreciate your quick response.

I would suggest you to book your seats in 2A (two tier sleeper AC) which will increase your probability of a peaceful sitting by the side of the window... but offcourse if anyone assures you of the side lower berth in 3A then also it'll be wise to accept that... happy traveling!

marian,
Should you not get your class of travel on that train, then you may look at the lone volvo bus that state transport runs between Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. Departure is at 6:30 am from Jodhpur and arrival at 11:30 am at Jaisalmer. I wrote a bit about it here (post number 7) Suggestions for 2-3 days around Jodhpur?.

Thanks so much! We have booked 1AC now, but will keep those seating suggestions in mind for other trips.
