RAC (reserved against Cancellation) gets you on the train. You are ok to travel.
There is a very good chance that the Travelling Ticket Examiner will get you a berth for all or part of your journey.

As Nich-H said, you are already confirmed, but with sitting accommodation.

I wanted to know how many cancellation take place
Just was concerned how many cancellations take place at the last minute as than I will know if I will get sleeping berth.
Also we boarding at 11 in the night. I had asked my father to book and he was not aware that RAC implies one will not get confirmed sleeping berth. |

You have already got 2 sleeper berths, but those 2 berths are turned into 4 seats, so pass 1 & 2 are in the seats that make up berth 1, pass 3 & 4 are in the seats that make up berth 2.
Now, lets say the person in berth 71 cancels or doesn't turn up at the last minute, one person (pass 1) moves to the cancelled berth (71), this allows the 2 seats to be turned into a berth for pass 2. A few things to note.... The waitlist is now WL 491/WL 289, the fact that Indian Railways allow the waitlist to go so high, means they allow for a lot of cancellations. There are a minimum 11 Sleeper Class carriages on your train, there will be 4 RAC seats (2 berths turned into seats) in each carriage. Hopefully all the tickets will be confirmed before you travel, in fact, I bet that if you checked the PNR status now (check here ) you'll find all the tickets are now confirmed. If there were absolutely no cancellations RAC 41 would be in a different carriage. I feel sure you'll all get confirmed berths (but you'll all be seperated, and maybe in different carriages), but you can always put a child with the female member of the group.

The worst that will happen is that you will reach your destination with only seating accommodation. That is if your status remains RAC when boarding the train. Even then it is unlikely: as well as cancellations there are people that just don't turn up before the train departs, or simply miss it! Be positive: you will reach your destination on that train, and even if you are still RAC up until the last minute the TTE will very likely be able to find you berths. Steven puts it better than I do, but I wanted to underline this ![]() |

Thanks Steven n Nick. I guess it will take some time for the status to get confirmed. The present status is
0111 KONKAN KANYA EX 16-11-2007 CSTM MAO MAO CSTM SL Passenger 1 W/L 1 ,GNWL RAC 34 Passenger 2 W/L 2 ,GNWL RAC 35 Passenger 3 W/L 3 ,GNWL RAC 36 Passenger 4 W/L 4 ,GNWL RAC 37 I am optimistic as I had read "But about 200+ seats get cancelled for a Second class sleeper for train." Also, "About 10-20% of the reservations get cancelled just 24hrs or so before the journey. So the WL moves faster as the travel day approaches." All these comments make me more positive. Also Steven is quite logical: "The waitlist is now WL 491/WL 289, the fact that Indian Railways allow the waitlist to go so high, means they allow for a lot of cancellations." Keeping my fingers crossed. |

On the last day there were not many updates and my booking remained in RAC. I had to meet the TC who gave me seat in the extra coach and what a mess it was. People from general trying to get in, some agent trying to fit it more people. I even had to shout at few people to be quiet. But the good thing was that we could sleep atleast.
