Do you mean rak or RAC?

PF# is platform number

Elev is the height above sea level for the location in question.
The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.

Or is it rake-sharing?

There's something called a rake in train-speak isn't there? I don't know what it means

The only rake I know is the one I use in the garden

Well spotted. You should be doing Steven_ber's holiday cover.

Sanaci
Rake sharing means that the same set of coaches (known as a rake) is used for two different trains - at different times obviously.

So, would it be possible for an enthusiastic train-buff to follow A Rake's Progress across India?

Steady on. I do trains not culture. Speaking of a Rake's Progress across India have you seen the thread about India's longest train? I don't think it is subject to rake sharing. It probably needs a total rebuild after 82.5 hours continuous travel - assuming that it's on time.

A rake is normally shared by not more than 2 trains. So the rake goes from A to B where its renamed and them goes from B to C. Later it retraces back to A thru B. There is a time period of a few hours between each leg to allow for delays and washing, cleaning and maintenance.

Rake Sharing means simple to understand. Let us assume now a train arrived at a main station after its journey that stipulated by authorities. Either it goes to maintenance for washing side or
it will ready to go on the name of other train that scheduled for within an hour.
'Ex: Train 'A' goes to Hyderabad to Warangal. Another Train 'B' runs Hyderabad to Khazipet. 'A' Finishes its journey and return Hyderabad just now. Now 'B' Train has to go Khazipet. But its still in transit as per the schedule. Time is running. In the meantime, as per the schedule 'A' has to take in the form of 'B' and will ready to go Hyderabad to Khazipet. When 'B' comes the vice versa. This is as per my knowledge.

Rake means a set of waggons in railway jargon, but probably sanacl meant RAC, which means reservation against cancellation
