Question What Can Be Done for This ?

Hello friends !
Since I have planned for a trip to Uttarkhand later,I haven't got tickets to Haridwar from Howrah. Instead I have the tickets in 2 parts for the same train [Doon Express,3009],the first part is of 23rd September and is upto Mughal Sarai [MGS]; And the other is upto Haridwar from Banaras [BSB] to Haridwar on 24th September.

But, since Benaras is almost an hour from MGS,what can be done for the distance in between ? Is there any possibility to continue the 1st part of the ticket upto BSB ?

Any advice on this would be helpful.

yes, just tell the TTE and pay for it. Sometimes, if there is quota and seat is already full, then he may refuse. But, you can always talk and get it sorted out :-)

What is this 23rd and 24th issue? I hope the train / date is for the same train!

Thanks for the information;

Yes,the tickets are of the same train, but on different dates because the train leaves Howrah on 23rd and reaches Mughal Sarai on 24th September.

You're not leaving much time for delays. (10:20 till 11:55)

You may want to consider getting train 4523 from Varanasi Jn (15.30) to Roorkee (05.39) or Saharanpur (06:40) - depending on if you want to get to Haridwar/Rishikesh or Dehra Dun.

This would give an extra 3 and a half hours in Varanasi (or in case the Doon Express is delayed), yet only add a 30 minute bus journey at the other end to get to Haridwar.

In 3A there are 2 berths available for the 24th and in Sleeper Class there are 11 berths available.

DO NOT cancel any of your tickets until you have alternative CONFIRMED tickets.

On reading your post again, it would seem that you've booked the same train (Doon Exp) for both sections of the journey, and as far as I'm aware, this isn't allowed.

However, as you have 2 seperate tickets (and 2 seperste berths), and as the TTE is likely to change at Mughal Sarai or Varanasi, you'll likely get away with it.

If I was to do this, I'd try to chat to my fellow passengers, then get one to look after my luggage, then I'd get into an unreserved carriage from Mughal Sarai to Varanasi, then go and collect my luggage and find my new berths at Varanasi.

Don't ask the TTE to extend the ticket as you don't want him to know that you've booked the same train in 2 seperate sections.

Dear exogeneric,

Instead I have the tickets in 2 parts for the same train Doon Express,3009,the first part is of 23rd September and is upto Mughal Sarai [MGS]; And the other is upto Haridwar from Banaras [BSB] to Haridwar on 24th September.

##Please mention two things:

i) the class in which you have booked;

ii) whether the above two tickets,that is, pertaining to your part-i of the journey and pertaining to your part-ii of the journey are CONFIRMED (or) WAITLISTED.

Thank you so much Steven! My real reason for this thread was to know if booking two seperate tickets allowed for the same train for the same journey but for different parts of the journey or not! And anyway, I was never going to let the TTE know about the later part of the journey at all,though I was about to request him to extend the ticket upto Varanasi, a distance of just 17Km in a 700 Km journey!! And when two seperate tickets mean different journeys, then what would prevent it legally,if I am okay paying the extra amount for 2 seperate bookings? Please do advice what should be the best way to deal it.

I am now answering your question one by one , here it follows :-
i) the class in which I have booked both tickets : Sleeper Class
ii) As I check the status right now,they are RAC 7 to RAC 12 for the part 2 of the journey from Varanasi and the ones from Howrah are all confirmed;

Also,to both of you vsp & Steven,as an additional information I must mention that I have a ticket in the same train for the same journey but boarding point in Mughal Sarai on 24th September,but 2 of them are in the waiting list out of a group of 6 people.So,I am having to rely on the ones I have from Varanasi for the part 2 of the journey.
Do I need to write here the PNR nos. of the 3 tickets ?

Please do let me know what best can be done under these situations !

Dear exogeneric,

ii) As I check the status right now,they are RAC 7 to RAC 12 for the part 2 of the journey from Varanasi and the ones from Howrah are all confirmed;

##If you have a confirmed tickets from Howrah to Varanasi, then majority of your problem is solved. It would NOT be a surprise, if your HWH-BSB Berths do not turn in your favour for your BSB-HW Journey.

##Even if your berths are confirmed/ seats are provided in another coach, then, also stop worrying, because through the vestibule you can carry the passengers & your luggage very very comfortably.

Also,to both of you vsp & Steven,as an additional information I must mention that I have a ticket in the same train for the same journey but boarding point in Mughal Sarai on 24th September,but 2 of them are in the waiting list out of a group of 6 people.

##Please cancel this ticket - at once!!!!

So,I am having to rely on the ones I have from Varanasi for the part 2 of the journey.

##You please continue to do this, that too, without any sort of tensions!!!!

Do I need to write here the PNR nos. of the 3 tickets ?

##Now, absolutely NOT required.

##However, if you don't want to keep them in strict confidence, then, you are most welcome to write them here, only for academic purpose of 'some' of the IMers.:-)

I think, you are free to book in sections. So long as you have legal tickets you are good.

Even if you go to unreserved compartment, you are travelling without a ticket from Mugalsarai to Varanasi. So, without telling TTE, what could be done is to request him to extend Mugalsarai to Varanasi, due to last minute exigencies! Or, if the TTE changes at Mugalsarai, meet the new one and say that due to some exigency, I have to catch the train at Mugalsarai and you have ticket from Varanasi. He has the authority to issue a ticket with some 50 rupees or so penalty.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much vsp27759 for your patient suggestion about the problem. So,I am all set to rely on the BSB to HW RAC tickets for the second part of the journey,which needs requesting the TTE to extend the part 1 of my ticket upto BSB, I hope he would oblige.
By the way,I couldn't understand what you meant to suggest with the status of the same train for different quotas. Is it just to stress on the fact that the RAC's getting confirmed is only next to impossible ?
Also, what is that "ISL STN DELETED ISL STN DELETED" status in your post #12? Is that some kind of error message ?

Angry Does extension of long distance train tickets means it is a fine ?

Thanks for your post sdsudarsan !
Do you meant to say that extension of the existing tickets encourage a Fine? What is the extent of the said fine? Is it Rs.5/- per head or per ticket ? Also, does that confirms that passengers would be allowed to stay at the same berths without needing to worry about the availability of berths from that station and all that ?
Earlier I think there was a post in which you said it all depends on the quota and if that is full he may refuse. So,please clarify on this point for me. It is very vital for me to know this particular this in order to carry on with this journey.
