Watlists and Cancelling
Firstly, this is a wonderful resource and has contributed greatly to our holiday and tour this year. I am looking at booking bet wen mumbai and delhi for the overnight service on the 2nd Jan. It shows a wait list of 5 - if we don't clear in the next 3 days, would we be able to cancel online (its he on bit of our schedule that's tight - would love the train, but will have to plane it if need be.)
We were looking at FirstAC (treat for my girlfriend, its ac2 the rest of the trip )Thanks in advance Jon |

AFAIK, you can't cancel online. You have to take the ticket to a reservation office.

And to make things worse, it was my experience (having been wait-listed at least a half-dozen times) that the lists didn't actually clear until the morning of travel. I wouldn't be at all confident of getting a clearance in mid-December for a journey in January. On the other hand, we were often wait-listed further down the line than you are (12 or 13), and we always got a berth, so my feeling is that you probably won't have any trouble. Of course, this is probably a seasonal thing (we were there in November), and also is probably dependent on particular trains (we never travelled between Mumbai and Delhi), so there are a lot of extra factors to take into account here.
BUT.... before you cancel, do look up other people's experiences regarding wait-listed tickets. There will probably be scores, maybe hundreds, of posts on this forum from people who found themselves wait-listed and were a bit worried. Did any of them NOT get a berth? I honestly can't recall ever seeing a post from someone who said that they had to stand up all night. I do, however, recall seeing mention of a wait-list place of more than 100 clearing down to nothing, so it would seem that the European practice of booking multiple dates between major destinations, so that you can choose the day you want at the last minute, is alive and well in India. And it would seem to me that the Mumbai-Delhi route would be the logical one for business people to use like this. |

Dear Jongar,
In which Train you have been waitlisted? ------- What was your original Booking Status? Is it Wl.5/WL.5 (or) is the first number more than 5, the second being 5? Please clarify. --------- V.Srinivasa Prasad 20.12.2005/9.45 hrs. |
