waitlisted - will I get seats?

I''ve read all about waitlists on this forum and I am still a bit confused about the likelyhood of getting confirmed seats. I'm concerned we will not get seats and our whole itinerary will get thrown off.

We would like to travel on NOV 1st on the 2627 Karnataka Express boarding in Jalgaon getting off in Agra. I am thinking we will go 2AC just because the waitlist is shortest in this class. Currently it says WL4/WL3.

If we book this ticket in 2AC what are the odds we (2) will get a berth? What happens after the WL, do you move up to the RAC list? And RAC means you have a confirmed seat, but not a berth to sleep, right?

If I never get a confirmed ticket what are some alternative ways to get from Jalgaon to Agra (or direct to Jaipur, if necessary we will skip Agra) that same night NOV 1st?

at 3rd and 4th on the wait list you will most certainly get on

It is most likely that you will get on with a confirmed ticket by the time you are to travel and though the waiting list in the AC class is less likely to come down much as there are not too many seats there and so not many people cancelling their well earned seats but in the sleeper class it is not a problem even if you have a waitlisted ticket of about 30 or even 40 sometimes depending on the time of travel. In the summer vacation periods it is usually difficult to get seats easily from waiting lists but you should be safe, I guess!!!

Nov.1 is Diwali and though not the peak travel period, there's quite a rush at this time too.

Once when I was travelling on the day of Diwali from Jaipur to Mumbai, the train was quite empty!!! Not many people would want to travel long distances on that day, I guess!!!

Generally speaking, Hindus may stay at home on Diwali day, non-Hindus may travel, as its holidays for them.

I've faced difficulties in getting berths on trains during the Diwali vacation, if not booked in advance.

We all have our experiences!

Though not many people (Hindus ?) would like to travel on Deepavali day before and after would be a rush. Also 4th of Nov is Ramazaan I guess and it is a 3 day weekend so there might be rush

@@@In the past, wherever I got an opportunity, I have stated that there are 4 types of Waiting Lists and also explained how they function, namely, WL/RLWL/RQWL/PQWL but in the Web Site no Prefix is used to differentiate them, and as such, our friends get a feeling that if the WL.Number is less they will get confirmed Berths, which is not correct in all cases.

So, if somebody books berths against SBC-AGC & RC-AGC Quotas, upto Jalgaon, then your waiting list may also get confirmed against such bookings, in addition to cancellations from out of GR-AGC Quota under which the passengers from Jalgaon are initially booked.

Look you are boarding the train at Jalgaon so your ticket is from a quota alloted to Jalgaon sector. That means if a passanger cancells his Bangalore Delhi ticket your WL number doesnt change. If not confirmed you may get an RAC reservation, in this you will get a seat & will be allowed to travel not very comfortable.

RAC will be maintained for Remote Location Quota, only after Remote Location Waiting List (RLWL) commences. But here, the Total Quota is only 8 Berths and I doubt whether RAC will be maintained or not.

As I have already stated, the JL-AGC Waitlisted Passengers will get a confirmation only when there are cancellations:
i) in JL-AGC confirmed bookings
and
ii) if there are any bookings upto or short of Jalgaon against SBC-AGC or RC-AGC Confirmed bookings.

You will be interested to know a single Berth in AC-2 Tier in a long distance train like 2627 can be reserved for more than one sector, namely, SBC-GR>>>>SUR-JL>>>>JL-BPL>>>>>BPL-NDLS. In short this is also called Berth Multiplexing!!!!!

I've never seen RAC for 2A, only for SL class.

Is RAC actually a possiblility for 2A or not?

In all the Trains, if there is One 2A Coach, 4 passengers will be kept under RAC, generally those falling under Originating Station quota (**not Road-side Quota) and then only Waiting List commences.

Even in 3AC, before WL commences, there will be RAC consisting of 4 passengers.
