Waitlist Help - Please!

Hello,

Sorry if I posted in the wrong place. I'm stuck and can't figure out how what to do next

My first time to India is fast coming. I am waitlisted on the following:

Oct 28 #4089 from JU to JSM 2A WL6

Nov 02 #E-2001 from AGC to NDLS 1A WL4

What should I do to make certain I make these trains?

Thank you,

David W.

Hi David,

I see that you've already posted your query on the sticky thread http://www.indiamike.com/india/india...e-only-t91500/ , which is the right place for better responses.

Have you checked availability in other classes like 3A or Sleeper?

No, but if there is availability in another class, you can purchase a ticket for that class and cancel your waitlist ticket.

What's your PNR number for this train?

PNR is a 10 digit number (3 & 7) and should be top right or left of your ticket.

The reason I ask, I can still see availability in both classes on 2nd November.

You mean 4059.

Book Sleeper Class now (only $3), then ask questions later, don't cancel your original ticket yet.

David, your wait listed status being WL6 and WL4 has reasonable chances to get confirmed. However, if yoiu still wish to ensure yoiu get confirmed tickets for your journeys, you can make check for availability and subsequently book in other classes, i.e 3A (AC 3 Tier) or SL (Non-AC Sleeper) as well. You also have the option of opting for the 'Tatkal" reservation system as well, where you will be charged a nominal fee to book your tickets two days prior to the date of journey. But remember to book the tickets early in the day itself as there are chances that tickets under this scheme will be booked quite soon. Basically they block a 10% of seats to be sold two days prior to the trains departure day.

Steven ber,

For train 4059 JU-JSM on 10/28 the PNR is 2311869219 WL6
For train 2966 JP-AGC on 11/02 the PNR is 2311768566 WL4

Thanks

Steven ber,
Steven ber,

Yes, 4059.
I will book sleeper class. At what point should I cancel the WL tickets?

The problem is, there are only 6 berth used for 2A between Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, so you need an awful lot of luck for your ticket to get confirmed.

You're still at waitlist 6, but check again 2 days before your journey, and if you're not confirmed, cancel the ticket, Sleeper class will be fun.

Actually, there are still 4 berths each in 2A and 3A for the 28th, but they're in the Foreign Tourist Quota, and you can only book these in India, when you arrive (Mumbai or Delhi I assume), take your 2A ticket to the foreign tourist office (1st floor, New Delhi station) or counter 52 (I think) in the reservation office at Mumbai CST station) and see if they can transfer you to the foreign tourist quota.

OK, you had said it was the Agra - Delhi train.

WL4 isn't too bad, and will likely get confirmed.

But at both air con Chair Class (CC) and 2S still have availability, you could buy one of those tickets as a back up.

See the following link for a brief explanation (and photo) of 2S class, it's really quite a comfortable class and VERY VERY cheap.

steven, ber,

I booked SL on both trips.
However, on the JP to Agra (train 2966) I am WL8 for SL.

So, I have two tickets: for 2A I am WL4 and for SL I am WL8.

How likely will it be for me to make train 2966? Any further suggestions?

Thanks again.

We replied at the same time, I replied twice, so check to see if you missed a reply.

Sleeper Class will likely get confirmed on the Jaipur- Agra train, there's 53 berths used, so a higher chance of cancellations, but there's at least 12 RAC places to get through, so you need 8 cancellation to get an RAC seat (you don't really want this in Sleeper Class), and 14* cancellations to get a confirmed berth.

* the number is correct, it's just too much to explain

Given the very high number (28) of berths left in the HO quota (don't ask, you can't book these), I'd say you've got about a 98% chance of getting a confirmed berth.
