Dear Ddutta,
Your observation:-
""Just checked the railways site & found that there is still 57 seats available on 5-9-05 in Howrah - Kalka Mail on 3AC. Dont know why its showing WL2 to you.""

The HWH-KLK Passengers are booked against HWH-KLK Quota. Once this gets exhausted, the WL will commence.

So, the RLWL at DELHI, if any, gets confirmed only if there are cancellations within the DLI-KLK Quota;

against bookings made from Howrah to stations short of Delhi against HWH-KLK Quota.

If there is RAC/WL at Howrah, they will be considered against HWH-KLK Cancellations. where the Quota will be more when compared to DLI-KLK Quota.

Dear vsp27759,
Firstly, thank you for your detailed reply, it is highly appreciated. I booked on 17th August for my overnight train on 5th from Delhi to Kalka. When i printed out my ticket, the status said "RLWL2". However, when i checked the PNR status in the "booked ticket" section, it said W/L 2 back then, and even says so now.
Frankly, I cannot make head or tail out of it
Please let me know if I stand a good chance of getting my ticket confirmed by the travel date?
Thanks in advance

Good news:)
Hey All,
I'd like to say that I just checked the PNR status of my ticket now and it says CONFIRMED
However, for the sake of more clarity in this topic, I'd still want some one to explain the various acronyms used in the Indian rail lingo
Thanks in advance

Dear Enigma,
It is good that your ticket got confirmed.

First of all, not only you, but all others who purchase Train Tickets for their Journeys within in India, must note that the Official Web Site of Indian Railways DOES NOT DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN WL & RLWL/RQWL/PQWL, and they tend to feel that they are Waitlisted like in WL, but there is lot of difference between these Waiting Lists:
-------
1) WL.........General Waiting List...........This is started only after RAC List reaches its Maximum Limit. In other words, if there are cancellations, the WL will come down to RAC and if there are further cancellations, it will come down to Confirmed Status. WL is maintained at the ORIGINATING STATION ONLY.
--------
2) RLWL....Remote Location Waiting List.........The difference between WL and RLWL is that RLWL is from Intermediate Stations to Intermediate Stations/Terminating Station. RAC is maintained even for Remote Location Quota.
----------
3) RQWL.........Request Waiting List...........When there is a specific Quota upto a particular Intermediate Station, then once that Quota is over, RQWL is maintained which gets confirmed only when there are cancellations in the earlier confirmed bookings. No RAC before RQWL.
-----------
4) PQWL..........Pooled Quota Waiting List..........In certain long distance trains passengers from Originating Station to Intermediate Station, between Two Intermediate Stations and Intermediate Station to Terminating Station are placed booked under this Quota. Once the Quota gets exhausted, the PQWL commences and there will not be any RAC before PQWL. Normally those under PQWL will also get confirmation against Bookings under General Quota, if they can fit in that bookings.

Dear Enigma,
Was that RLWL or RQWL, originally got printed on your Ticket?
---------------
Because, the following is the DLI-KLK/3A Quota by 2311:-
Accomodation Availability Enquiry
You Queried For Train Number Train Name Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Source Station Destination Station Quota Code
2311 HWH DLI KLK MAI 26-10-2005 DELHI KALKA GENERAL
S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - 3A
1 26-10-2005 AVAILABLE- 0006
2 27-10-2005 AVAILABLE- 0006
-----------------------
In the normal course, for 6 Berths, RAC will not be maintained, and before RLWL, there has to be RAC.
----------
As I have already told you, before RQWL, no RAC will be there.

Reg.RQWL
I have booked my ticket from mumbai to kota on 06.03.2009 for travelling dated 19.04.2009.I receive RQWL ticket whether It will confirm before travelling date?.What is process for RQWL to confirm ticket or RAC?.Please Give me breifly information about RQWL.
Dear Satish,
You have NOT given the Train Number. But since you said the status is RQWL, I assume it to be either 2951 or 2953. Please correct me.
There will NOT be any RAC for RQWL Passengers. So, either it should get confirmed OR you will get dropped.
