I would like to book an online "i-ticket" for the 5th of Sept 2005, which is a 3A ticket on the Howrah-Delhi-Kalka Mail from Delhi to Kalka. Currently, the Wait list status is WL2/WL2. I have a few questions that i would appreciate someone helping me out with:

1)Is this going to be a risky booking, or can i consider it safe to expect my seat?
2)If i book while it says "wait list" and print my ticket, what is the procedure to follow once I'm confirmed, and what proof will I have of this?

Thanks in advance

1.This isn't a science but I feel confident enough to say that you will get on the train with waiting list number of two!
2. You can follow your ticket so to speak using the ticket pin number on the IR website when you become a comfirmed berth your "waiting listed" ticket automatically becomes a "confirmed ticket" and your name will be added to the comfirmed chart the ticket inspector uses to tick of the passengers.

If you can stretch your rail budget by 50%, AC 2-Tier for Sept. 5 is available.

Thank you guys!

I really would love to take the confirmed 2A seat, but the budget gets strecthed a bit too much then

I'm gonna take the risk and book the 3A for now. Just in case it doesnt get confirmed by 5th Sept, would I be able to get on the train anyways and get atleast a seat/normal sleeper class berth? Is that an automatic procedure for WL tickets, or does it mean that if it doesnt get confirmed by then, i lose my ticket automatically?

Thanks in advace

Just checked the railways site & found that there is still 57 seats available on 5-9-05 in Howrah - Kalka Mail on 3AC. Dont know why its showing WL2 to you. Anyways , WL2 is very safe . Every possibility that the ticket will confirmed or upgraded to RAC. (Incase of RAC you will get the seating reservation only but not sleeper ). In the worst case , if this WL2 position stands , you have to take chance, that is , have to manage TT on the train. However , the rule is , if the WL ticket doest not confirmed/RAC then the ticket get automatically cancelled. You will get the money back , there is no scope that you will get a berth in sleeper class. Yes , you can travel in ordinary/ unreserved compartment.

That is quite strange! I am on www.irctc.co.in right now and in the area where it says "plan my travel and book ticket", if I put in the From station as Delhi and To station as Kalka for 5th Sept, choose i-ticket and 3A, i get two choices of Paschim Express and Howrah Mail. If i choose Howrah Mail and check the availability I'm still getting WL2/WL2. Am i doing something wrong or is there any other updated website to do this from?

Thanks!

Make the booking in 3A.

I would be astonished if your ticket was not confirmed by the 5th.

Thanks everyone for the info!

However, I still havent got away from all trouble. During the final stages of booking, the transaction got an "error" twice, and i got subsequent e mails from care@irctc.co.in saying that the ticket was not booked, and they were sorry but the money was debited and that it would be credited back shortly

Now, I've tried to book twice, it failed twice, money worth 2 tickets has been debited, it has still not been credited back, I'm still ticket-less, and I'm trying to get into a waiting-list anyways.

How better could it get

Daylight E-Robbery, IR style !!

Seriously speaking, the money will certainly be credited back, do not worry.
Try a third time, after a while. All the best !

Indeed Shimla, you are right..it really is E-robbery, and i still havent got two tickets worth of money credited back

Anyways, the good news is that I finally have both Delhi-Kalka and Kalka-Shimla tickets, though the former is still on the waiting list but the latter is confirmed. My printed "ticket" says the status is "RLWL2" whereas in the online "booked tickets" section it says the current status is "W/L 2".

I know RLWL means remote location wait list, but honestly, apart from THAT, i'm clueless about this railway lingo. Can anyone throw any light on what RLWL actually means and how it affects my chances of getting confirmed?

Hello

I did check the current PNR status of my waiting list ticket, and it still says "W/L2". Is this how it normally is? My journey is on 5th September, so i'm just beginning to get a littttle bit worried..perhaps a day or two before the journey the ticket status will improve? Kindly advice

I still dont know what RWL implies..

Thanks
