Waiting list please help

I have just today got my head around the booking system for the indian train after many hours spent trying to book just one journey I have read numerous posts which have all been invaluable . But i have been given the position of w/l 5 on the first leg of a return journey to Agra and my girlfriend has been allocated w/l6, what does this mean will we both be able to sit together and will we get on this train at all . The return journey from Agra has been no problem and is available but it is all booked now , so if we cant get on the first train we have wasted the return journey money i think . Can anybody advise me on this please . i realiose there are many posts about this subject but i thought as this is a specific question i would go ahead and ask . Any help would be gratefuly accepted . Thanks

When are you traveling, what class and what is the train number?

You should have 2 waitlist numbers per person, what are they?

eg.

W/L 05 - W/L 05

or

W/L 05 - W/L 01

or

W/L 05 - RAC 01

or

W/L 05 - CNF

if families/couples are separated, the passengers and conductor will rearrange to keep families together, in my experience.

Please don't mind my asking, but what on earth made you book for 2138, which is the long-distance Punjab Mail, for a three hour journey between New Delhi and Agra ??

As of now, seats in AC Chair Car on the morning Taj Express are available for Nov. 20 !!

Further, plenty of seats are available in AC Chair car as of now on the morning Shatabdi Express too !!

Shimla , i went onto the irtc site and typed in my destinations and these where the options that i was given . I am obviously an amateur at train bookings . I will stick with what i have and learn from my mistakes , thanks for the pointers , have you any answers to the questions that i asked and how much time difference is there between the train i will be on and the Shatabdi express .

AK74,

Never mind, we all make mistakes and learn from them.

1. Since you have booked the Punjab Mail tickets on the internet, you can cancel them only at the booking counters in India, once you reach India. If your ticket remains W/L at the time of cancellation, you will get a full refund.

2. The same website www.irctc.co.in is to be used for booking the 2002 Bhopal Shatabdi Express tickets. When you select the source and destination, be sure to select class as AC Chair Car. Then select the 2002 Shatabdi Express.

3. The Punjab Mail leaves at 05=30 and reaches Agra at 08=35, whereas the Shatabdi leaves at 06=00. However, the latter takes only two hours to reach Agra - at 08=10.

Shimla , thankyou for the priceless info , once again . I have managed to book the express train leaving at 6:00 and arriving at 8:10 great time saving and it seems you also get a meal on board . Is this true ? I have stuck with the Malwa express on the way back, leaving at 3:30 and arriving at 7:40 , this seems to be the best of the options available returning as the only express train on the way back leaves AGC as we are leaving NDLS at 6:00, is this right also ? . As for the refund on the tickets : we only arrive on the 19th and do not really want to spend our first day going to the booking office for a refund , will it be possible to turn up on the morning of the 20th after the train has left and still gain a refund as we did not board the train or would we have to get there before the train was due to leave once again thanks

Hi Ak
Yes you get a meal on the Shatabdi and thoroughly pampered it's a great way to travel!!
There's also a returning shatabdi at 8 30 I think I'll check that if the IR server lets me in!!

You won't get a refund if you wait until the next day, you can only get a 50%refund upto three hours after the departure of your train!

Thanks cyber i think the 8:30 train will be too late as we are off to Ahmedabad the next day and want to get back to the hotel in time to relax and get ready for the next day. We should be ok for a fifty pct refund if what you say is right ? where do we actually go to gain the refund . The trainjh leaves at 5:30 around about the time we should get ther for our express train leaving at 6:00.

Ok got you now I misread your post, yes as long as you're within the 3 hour limit you'll get 50% of the ticket back.

To cancel go to the resevations office on Chelmsford road, just up from the station. Grab a reservation/cancellation form. Fill in the ticket details and hand it over at a counter (there might be a spcial counter for this I'm not sure) then you'll recieve your refund.

You might be able to do this at the station itself I"m not sure, maybe someone else can enlighten us on this

I'm not sure if travel agents can do this for you, ask at your hotel then you can get a 75% refund though you will probably have to pay around 150 Rps IF a agent can do this for you!

we were in india this june/july, and cancelled my train reservation at Bombay, it was very fast and easy.

I think you can send anyone with your tickets for cancellation. Since this is paid with VISA, your account will be credited. And to my surprise it happened allmost instantaenously.

Indian Railways Online Service is great, considering the fact that, the India Railway Online Booking Algorithm is the MOST COMPLEX ONE in the world.

good luck
dan
