W/L 1 & W/L 2? What if they don't change?

We are catching the DLI JSM Express from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer on Jan 3 (train 4059 @ 6.45am). Our status currently stands as W/L 1 & W/L 2 (class 3A). If this does not change to a confirmed booking - what does this actually mean for our trip?

Cheers Whippet

If the WL position does not change, it means you cannot board the train and you miss your journey.

However, W/L 1 and W/L 2 have a very good chance of being confirmed or at least progressing into RAC status by Jan. 3; so you can board the train and travel.

You should n't worry i suppose. VERY good chances to be confiremed of RAC.

Just check your PNR status previous evening by which time should be ok.
Even if they are still the same just contact the TTE of your compartment.Most likely TTE would do.But

RAC would be great, if I remember right (VSP can confirm) if both tickets are still RAC, you will have to share one sleeping berth (consisting of 2 side berth seats), this is perfect as your journey is a daytime one, if one of you gets confirmed and the other is RAC, give the confirmed berth to the RAC passenger sitting opposite you in the side berth, then both of you can sit together.

There is always the (unreserved) 2nd class if it's not too busy.

If not, Train 2JPJ departs Jodhpur daily at 08:40, and gets to Jaisalmer at 16:05, This is an unreserved train and only has 2nd class.

I have just returned from India. I don't think you need to worry about it. Worse come to worse, you could either do as suggested by others above or take a car/driver from Jodphur to Jaisalmer, which we did. It was much faster and comfortable than the train and believe it took approx. 4 hours (or less). The road from Jodphur to Jaisalmer is very good. H'ever, it did cost more than the train - it costs us approx. 4,000 rupees.

We had a train ticket from Ranthambore to Agra and were in WL3/WL4 and from Agra to Varanasi and were in WL1/WL2 and had no problems getting on the train for both sectors. You would need to call "135" on any phone in India and enter your PNR number on the ticket (located on the top left of your ticket) to find out whether you have a seat or not and if you do, you will be told of your seat number (most likely you will get a seat).

We, like you, were very concerned about getting the necessary train tickets. So much so that we had prepared an alternative plan should we not be able to get on the trains - thanks to Steven Ber's train listing. We did not purchase our train tickets on-line prior to our trip. Thanks to the kind asistance of some of the hotels, they managed to get our train tickets.

Relax and enjoy your Christmas/NY. Hope you will have fun in India!

Whippet, 99.99% your tickets will be confirmed. However, please make sure that you keep checking for the confirmation status online regularly.

If in case (most unlikely), your tickets do not get confirmed, get them cancelled a day before, so that you do not lose out on money. They will charge you a maximum of Rs 20 - Rs 40 for the cancellation charges and you will get the rest of the money back. But for this, you will have to go to railway station urself, as you cannot get the ticket cancelled online (Others please validate this point). You can get the tickets cancelled half an hour before the commencement of the journey.

Or If you are into negotiations, the TTE will definitely be able to give you seats, if you offer him some money say 100 to 200 bucks for each seat or so. Just tell him that you'd be grateful if he can arrange for seats by taking some amount of money reqd, he will surely arrange for something even if he has to throw someone out of the running train ;-)

Just relax and keep checking for confirmation online, I am sure you'd get the seats. In Delhi, by no means, pay a Coolie more than 50 bucks for carrying two heavy bags. And take very good care of your luggage, If someone mis behaves or asks for more money, just start shouting at that person loudly enough so that others can hear, and he will leave without saying a word (out of embarrassment).

A TTE is a Train Ticket Examiner. All TTE's thruout India wear a Black Suit (Black Coat + White Shirt) Not sure of the pants though - they will wear any. They will have a silver badge on their coat saying the name of the TTE along with "TTE" written under it.
So now you know whom you gottu bribe in order to get those seats ;-)

Dear Steven,
Please look at this:-
---
You Queried For Train Number Train Name Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Source Station Destination Station Quota Code
4059 DLI JSM EXPRESS 21-2-2006 DELHI JODHPUR JN GENERAL

S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - 3A
1 21- 2-2006 AVAILABLE- 0032
========================
You Queried For Train Number Train Name Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Source Station Destination Station Quota Code
4059 DLI JSM EXPRESS 21-2-2006 DELHI JAISALMER GENERAL

S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - 3A
1 21- 2-2006 AVAILABLE- 0032
============================== ======
Now, please see this:-
-----
You Queried For Train Number Train Name Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Source Station Destination Station Quota Code
4059 DLI JSM EXPRESS 22-2-2006 JODHPUR JN JAISALMER GENERAL

S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - 3A
1 22- 2-2006 AVAILABLE- 0008
============================== ======
Mr.Whippet had stated that his WL.No. is 1 and 2.
-----------
I take it as WL.1/WL.1 and WL.2/WL.2
****************************** **********
(*** In different Topics, UI have made fervent appeals to the Members enquiring about WL Status to give both the Numbers, i.e, WL____/WL____ and also the type of Waiting List., (RLWL/PQWL/WL). I presume the IRCTC Booking does not differentiate between these Three types of Waiting Lists. Hence, our Members who book their tickets might not be knowing this)
**********************
Coming back, the chances for confirmation of Mr.Whippet's tickets would be against:-
1) DLI-JU Bookings
2) Cancellations done within the 8 Berths Quota earmarked Quota for JU-JSM stretch
3)Non-utilisation of HO Quota coupled with Berth Multiplexing
=============================
@@@By and large, this WL.1 & WL.2 would transform into atleast RAC in the Final Charting, and nothing much to worry since JU-JSM is a day-journey.
==============
@@@But please look at the current position:-
---
You Queried For Train Number Train Name Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Source Station Destination Station Quota Code
4059 DLI JSM EXPRESS 3-1-2006 JODHPUR JN JAISALMER GENERAL

S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - 3A
1 3- 1-2006 WL 10/WL 10

2 4- 1-2006 WL/AVAILABLE

3 5- 1-2006 WL 8/WL 8

4 6- 1-2006 WL 22/WL 19

5 7- 1-2006 WL 20/WL 12

6 8- 1-2006 WL 11/WL 8
---------------------------------
****Not a single cancellation so far in the JU-JSM Waiting List because it shows WL.10/WL.10
WHEREAS
for 4th January, it is WL/AVAILABLE which means all the 8 Confirmed Berths were cancelled, after the commencement of Waiting List and there is nobody even in the Waiting List.
