Very Confused
Im taking my husband to india for his birthday at the end of september. Im trying to figure out which type of transportation would be best. I'd rather take a train (scared of planes).
But the more i read about trains i find out that they are really unhygienic ?! right? Is there any good quality trains out there? price is not that much of an issue. Please please help! really confused on what to do..... ![]() |

Im not sure you can reach Inia from Baharain by Train you may have to have a cruise or plane. You can try out the Toy train in Borivali national Park or Toy train at National Rail museum in New Delhi or NTR Gardens in Hyderabad. These would be 5-15 min rides and you would not be too worried about hygiene.
Otherwise for Longer trains you can book berth in First AC coaches.. Quote:

I am joking. I am getting a bit concerned about the number of threads recently about things people have read about Indian Railways, and I do wonder what people are reading. 1 and 2AC are clean enough, and other classes are very clean considering their low cost. enooruddin, the following comments are not aimed at you, it's just something I feel strongly. If 1A and 2A are not good/clean enough for a person, they're coming to the wrong country, this is India, a shining immaculate train that allowed diners to eat their dinner of the floor would be so out of place in India. There are plenty of luxury trains in India that offer up to a week of pure luxury, travelling with rich people and avoiding any unnecessary contact with India and Indian people, no doubt they’ll be discussing how to improve the lives of India’s poor as they sip champagne in the dining car, these trains cost about 2-300 US dollars per night, but most are heavily booked in advance. |

You could always rent a car and driver. But as Steven-ber says, the trains are pretty good, and it's a classic way to travel in India.

If you have the money, go on Palace on Wheels, that would be an amazing experience. If you don't have the money 1st Class or 2A/C will suffice.
Somewhere in between the two will be a car and driver. I like gaurav's suggestions - very hygienic!!

It's all the same company - Indian Railways. There are different branches, that's all e.g. Northern Railways and so on. Which area you are travelling will be which Branch you get.

There is a thread here on IndiaMike on the luxury trains operated by Indian Railways. You can search for it.
