Varanasi - Amritsar - Dharamsala
Varanasi - Amritsar - Dharamsala
Hi again
Well, flushed with success of my first post on Indiamike and the great information it generated, thought I'd ask for some more info, this time on the second leg of our journey, specifically from Varanasi to Amritsar and then on to Dharamsala.
So, here we go, any info gratefully received:
1. What's the best way to get from Varanasi to Amritsar? Would prefer to travel by train but keen to avoid transiting in Delhi if at all possible, so flying might be an option.
2. Any recommendations for hotel accomm in Amritsar for less than Rs 1000 per night?
3. Is there anywhere particularly worthwhile breaking the journey between Amritsar and Dharamsala and what's the most practical means of travel for this trip?
4. Where's the best place to stay in the Dharamsala / McLeod Ganj area? Looking for a clean, secure place with a bit of atmosphere and hopefully a decent view in the Rs. 500 - 700 range.
5. Is Dalhousie a good place to spend a few days chilling out and, again, any accomm recommendations?
Alright, think that just about covers it - only one week to go now!
Thanks again
M

Please look at this thread, even if you are not in India.: Have you seen Jonathan Spollen?
He could be anywhere now: You might have met him, be able to help, or give information.

Accomodation at Dharamsala - Try HPTDC's Hotel Bhagsu or Hotel Kashmir House.
At Dalhousie - HPTDC's Hotel Manimahesh. They also run a budget hotel called Geetanjali, but its badly maintained.
Visit http://www.hptdc.nic.in/hotel.htm for details.
