Unable to Communicate? My Pants!

So I get to the very end of the ordering process to get an e ticket. All the information entered. Credit Card info in. And I get a problem that says there was a Communication Error.

Granted, I've had errors, and slow page loading at every step of this process, but I've gotten right to the end maybe 15 times and received this message. Is this a common issue? Should I keep trying? Is there something going on here I don't know about?

ALSO There have been no confirmations sent to my email.
I have successfully ordered several other tickets using the same card. But this error has been happening for two days in a row now.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, this is a very common problem. And there is nothing you can do about it except keep trying.

IRCTC is a disgrace.

I am thankful that I have now booked all the rail tickets I need for my forthcoming trip, but it was a long, frustrating ordeal and one I shall not repeat. The joys of India are now far outweighed by the sheer effort involved in getting visas, hotel reservations and rail tickets.

See other recent posts; there are a number of complaints about this site just now.

It's excellent when it works; it seems to be going through a bad patch

A communication error means just that: There is a communications failure somewhere down the line. As noted, nothing to do about it except for trying again, or giving it a rest for a day or so. A word of comfort: I've never used the booking system, but by all accounts should your card get hit for faulty transactions, refunds will actually be promptly made.

Damn. OK. That's sorta good news... Good in that it's not just me. Bad in that, well, doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it right now. Oh well. Back to clicking. Thanks for the help folks.

So you have never experienced the angry frustration of trying to do something that should be so straightforward; the hours of slow loading and timeouts that have at times almost had me in tears of frustration. You really should try it sometime.

IRCTC exists to sell rail tickets, yet is spectacularly unable to perform that single function to an acceptable level of reliability. Computer and telecommunications hardware and software is the same the world over - so why does it take me a minute to book a rail ticket in the UK and three days in India? And this is the country to which we are outsourcing more and more IT work?

Nope, I haven't What I do know is next time and just like before I'll just take my chances booking as I go along though. Requires a somewhat flexible schedule, obviously. I'm generally not so hot on online travel planning anyway, doesn't really meet my energy input/results output scale, be it looking for flights or hotels or whatever. Last time (somewhere else) I was without a guidebook for the first few days, quite untypical for me as I like to know some backgrounds to where I am at least. Makes you talk to people and so on, quite a liberating feeling. The rest I did using a heavily outdated guidebook, with similar effects. Very nice trip.

as the capt. said when I ranted about my problems booking a rail ticket, "we are like this only."

Hmmm. Do I have to guess?

Is it perhaps "India is shit. Deal with it."?

It means roughly "This is our way of doing things" (& we can't help it & so you'd better accept it )

Edward, I think a comma should be read into the title, had me thinking it was a typo at first too.

Less charitably (and in addition to the other posts above), it also can mean, India is not going to change for you. Deal with it
