Hi All, I'm a newbie, so hoping to do this right! My friend and I are travelling in India in Oct/Nov this year - it's our third trip - but we're 56 so we don't like totally roughing it.
We have always meant to go to Mt. Abu. Has anyone travelled from Udaipur to Mt Abu - either by car or by train? Can you tell me how the experience was for you? And also Bikaner - thinking that we may fly into Jodhpur and then train/car to Bikaner. Again, any experience, thoughts. Thanks and great to "meet" you all, Stephanie |

Udaipur to Mt. Abu, Jodhpur to Bikaner
Hi Shimla, we're flying into Delhi, probably will fly to Jodhpur (and then want to go up to Bikaner), then probably train to Udaipur and want to visit Mt. Abu - I know there's a train to Mt. Abu but I checked India Rail yesterday and they don't show a direct train, so likely we have to go either north or south to get across to Mt. Abu?
After that we're flying out of Udaipur, probably to Diu. Stephanie |

If you go from Udaipur by train the station you need to get down at is Abu Road. From there you can take a bus 27km to Mount Abu itself.
It's a very scenic trip up through the jungle covered hills. If you're pushed for time a bus directly from Udaipur might be faster. |

Hello Stephanie,
I suggest the following: 1. Delhi to Bikaner by overnight train; Bikaner to Jodhpur by afternoon train; Jodhpur to Abu Road by early morning train; Abu Road to Mt. Abu by bus; Mt. Abu to Udaipur by bus; fly out of Udaipur. |

Although it's a stopping service that night train from Delhi that Shimla suggests would be a good and comfortable way to get to Bikaner. It is train number 4791 and departs Delhi at 21:15 arriving Bikaner Junction 08:15 the next morning. It runs every day.
A word of warning though, it departs from Delhi Sarai Rohilla station and NOT New Delhi or Delhi stations! You wouldn't be the first travellers to miss it! By the way the Hana Matri Temple (the Rat Temple) at Deshnok just outside Bikaner is a spectacle not to be missed!!!

Dear Alan D,
If you go from Udaipur by train the station you need to get down at is Abu Road. From there you can take a bus 27km to Mount Abu itself. ##There is NO train service between Udaipur and Abu Road. |
