Udaipur-Ajmer train introduced.
Train 2992 departs Ajmer daily at 15:55, gets to Chittaurgarh at 18:55 (departs at 19:15) and gets to Udaipur at 21:20
Train 2991 departs Udaipur daily at 07:05, gets to Chittaurgarh at 09:00 (departs at 09:20) and gets to Ajmer at 12:30
Air con Chair class = Rs 346
Bookable 2nd class seat = Rs 103 (not air con)
Mumbai - Udaipur
There will soon be a 3 day a week train between Udaipur and Mumbai. (I have the train times and days, but not the day the service begins)
Ajmer/Chittaurgarh - Mandu
There is a daytime train in both directions between Ajmer and Ratlam (via Chittaurgarh), Ratlam is about 90kms from Dhar and connected by a direct road, there are lots of buses from Dhar to Mandu. (I have the train times.)
An overnight train in both directions between Ajmer and Ratlam will also be introduced shortly.

Good news for Rajasthan travellers again after the Bikaner-Jaisalmer route. Though I am not sure, I think I have heard somewhere about the plans to extend the (Kolkata)Sealdah-Ajmer Ananya Express to Udaipur (or already it is extended). Someone please confirm.
The trains towards Mandu is also welcome, although it is still a good road journey from Ratlam.

Yes, I think it starts on the 6th August, but it is only a weekly train.I wouldn't want to rely on it to get from Ajmer to Udaipur as the train starts in Kolkata, but on a Sunday night/Monday morning train 2316 departs Udaipur at 00:30 and gets to Ajmer at 06:00, then Jaipur at 08:35. (2A, 3A, SL.)
Looking at the times, I'm wondering if the Udaipur-Jaipur overnight trains (2966/2965) will be re-routed via the faster Ajmer route, at the moment the trains goes via Kota.

Thank you Steven for confirming. At least we now have an option to go directly to Udaipur. Obviously, the best train to go to Rajasthan from Kolkata is the superfast daily Howrah-Jaipur-Jodhpur Express. But if you want to go to Ajmer or Udaipur now, directly, you have Ananya Express.
Dear Steven,
The 2991/2992 had already started running.

Thank you for the information Steven, really good news from Indian Railways as Udaipur looked a bit out of the world in the train's map.
By the way Steven, Do you know why Indian Railways have reduced the time to book the tickets from 90 to 60 days???
Jorge
Edit.- Have seen the other threads about this matter. I'm sorry for the question.

I don't think anyone has the definitive answer. But there is some speculation here: http://www.indiamike.com/india/showt...006#post355006Edit: Just saw Jorge's edit!

Dear Reverter,
Dear Reverter,
I extract below relevant extract from the Press Report which appeared on 4th July,2007.
..................
Three months after deciding to increase the Advance Reservation Period (ARP) from 60 days to 90 days, Indian Railways has decided to revert back to the original 60 days time limit.
The move, innocent as it may seem, is driven by the fact that the Ministry has already derived the benefit it intended to by introducing it in the first place.
By increasing the ARP from 60 to 90 days from March 1 this year, Railways managed to earn a few hundred crores through advance reservations in the month of March itself and was able to show the earnings on its baance sheet ending March 31.
Simply put, by increasing the ARP by another 30 days, Railways, which was struggling to achieve Railway Minister Lalu Prasad's declared target oof Rs.20,000 crore as surplus, managed to rake in advance money for journeys which actually took place outside the 2006-07 fiscal.

Today the evening newspaper reported the start date as 5th August. The news item concerned devotees of Shrinathji (very many in Mumbai) and how they can go "direct" for darshan 5th onwards.
